Hi there :). First of all, I'm so happy I've found your blog! All of your asoiaf meta is amazing and super interesting to read. I was just reading through your personality type tag and I was wondering if there are any asoiaf characters you would type as INFJ?
Thanks so much! And, oh, INFJ, that’s a tricky one. You can see the basic type description here:
Beneath the quiet exterior, INFJs hold deep convictions about the weightier matters of life. Those who are activists – INFJs gravitate toward such a role – are there for the cause, not for personal glory or political power.
INFJs are champions of the oppressed and downtrodden. They often are found in the wake of an emergency, rescuing those who are in acute distress. INFJs may fantasize about getting revenge on those who victimize the defenseless. The concept of ‘poetic justice’ is appealing to the INFJ.
“There’s something rotten in Denmark.” Accurately suspicious about others’ motives, INFJs are not easily led. These are the people that you can rarely fool any of the time. Though affable and sympathetic to most, INFJs are selective about their friends. Such a friendship is a symbiotic bond that transcends mere words.
INFJs have a knack for fluency in language and facility in communication. In addition, nonverbal sensitivity enables the INFJ to know and be known by others intimately.
Writing, counseling, public service and even politics are areas where INFJs frequently find their niche.
And you know, that sounds a lot like Dany. The trouble is that some will look at the type description as its parts – Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Judger – and go, “what, Dany’s not introverted!” (But see here for actual meanings of MBTI terms.) Or they’ll look at the primary function of the INFJ, Ni, Introverted Intuition, and say that’s not how Dany primarily interacts with the world. Some will even claim she doesn’t have Ni at all, and that her 4 functions include Si, Introverted Sensing – only doing things because they’ve been done before, based on traditions and history – which is generally a sign they’ve never read the books and only go by the show. (I’m sure the difference between the dreamy insecure Dany of the books and the shouty “where are my dragons” Khaleesi of the show is why you can see her typed in such varying ways as INFP, ESFJ, ENFJ, ENTJ, and others.)
But anyway, back to Ni. It is very important to Dany, and is instrumental in her most character-defining decisions – such as the intuition-spurred ritual that led to the birth of her dragons. But I think the reason why it doesn’t appear obvious to people (besides the fact that Ni is hard for others to see in action) is due to her childhood with Viserys, an unstable abuser who punished her whenever she expressed any thought that didn’t align with his interpretation of what a Targaryen princess should be like. Thus she learned early to rely on her Extraverted Feeling, to predict his emotional state and prevent “waking the dragon” whenever possible. You can also see how she uses Fe frequently in her adaptation to other cultures, like the Dothraki and Qarth and Meereen. (And again the show’s “my way or the highway” Dany is what causes a lot of misreadings here, like with the arguments with the Thirteen and the lack of the “floppy ears” in Meereen etc, so you’ll have people actually claiming she can’t possibly be Fe because she’s not empathetic at all. *rolleyes*)
Anyway. I’m going to stop with the functional analysis for now, because I know it can look extremely incoherent. (I didn’t understand it myself for ages.) Instead I’m just going to provide a ton of links:

As for other characters in the books, I honestly can’t think of any offhand. Some have suggested Jon Snow (I say no, he’s much more S than N), some Melisandre (again nope, talk about empathy problems), so you’ll just have to take Dany for now. :) I hope that helps!
