Shout-out to when I first heard about "getting rid of Gender completely."
I was opposed to this because I thought it would, by necessity, involve also getting rid of Sex Education. Zero Sex-Education. Less than zero.
For some reason, I thought that if society didn't have Gender, then kids wouldn't be taught if they had the parts necessary to to get pregnant or not. I thought that this would lead to Horribly Agonizing Childbirth with NO WARNING of this being Something That Could Happen to YOUR specific body.
I was opposed to "abolishing gender" because I was envisioning a world without distinct categories of "Boy" "Girl" "Man" and "Woman," and I assumed that in this world everything that happened during puberty-- boobs, voice-changes, pubic hair, menstrual blood, horny-ness, ALL OF IT-- would be a Complete SURPRISE!
*What changes can I expect my specific body to go through, during this strange werewolf-like transformation from Child Body to Adult Body? Well, you'll just have to FIGURE IT OUT AS YOU GO, because there are no Men or Women to walk you through it, and Puritanical Values forbid discussion of our physical bodies!
I don't know why I thought that getting rid of Gender would lead to Puritanical censoring of every part of the adult body above the knees and below the nose, instead of JUST censoring butts, genitals, and about 50% of all chests/nipples.
But that is what I assumed, when the concept was first introduced to me.
I got called a "stupid baby bat" by someone in a webcam chat yesterday. What??? First, I'm not a baby bat, you really can't tell someone's "goth level" by their pajamas? Second, I was wearing my home made Doctor Who shirt, Darth Vader boxers, natural hair colour, and light makeup....what about that made them even think I was attempting goth? like what I haven't even considered myself goth since middle school really. Weird people, making judgements and then leaving immediately after. Don't start stuff if you're not gonna stick around to finish it.
At planned parenthood yesterday my nurse looked at my chart and this happened: Nurse: oh Angie, you're too young to be on this many pills. Me: right, well I need them. Nurse: but you're so pretty how can you have so many problems? Sjsnakdndndksk what. Not impressed pp, but I'll be back in two weeks.
