We’re hoping to buy a place this year and it’s causing me a ton of anxiety. I had imagined saving for another year or two (when I would certainly have just as much anxiety), but after the plumbing disaster we had this fall, I’m ready to be making my own decisions on fixing things. I’ve never had an actual good landlord. It’s always gaslighting or fees upon fees with poor service.

It has been so funny to spend time with a realtor. I think real estate agents have this idea of what people like—fresh, clean white walls, lots of natural light, minimalism, newness or maybe carefully curated vintage. It’s not what I like. We pointed out a gold metal fleur de lys register set in BLUE carpet and she mentioned we could replace it and move it onto the wall. NO! I adore it!! And the blue carpet is fun!! I’m not sure how long it would survive cats, but the color is wonderful!
