Now that Maysia is over, time to revisit the process for this one. It was mostly improv, but eventually I settled for trying to convey the “flow” as the input of external forces synthesizing into the things I love. Am artist 🥴

Full process under the cut!
I only had a vague idea of what I wanted to do, so I started out with what I love most: uneven, wavy lines, AKA the thing my hand just kind of does.
Then I stuck a person in there to start adding some visual interest. I’m always a fan of also adding contrasting line qualities, hence why I added some sharp triangles and clean circles. They pop up against the detailed, wavy lines with varying weights.
Once I was more or less satisfied with the sketch, I started inking. The big thing was that I didn’t necessarily sketch out EVERY SINGLE LINE as seen in the final ink, but just enough to convey the overall idea. My style here is very repetitive and pattern-based, so I’m usually able to fill in the blanks right in the ink phase.
You might notice I had absolutely nothing planned for like the bottom half of the picture. This is because in traditional mediums, I am currently Bad at Positioning Things where I want them to be on the page. In an ideal world, the person would have been properly placed, and compositionally it probably would have looked really nice with the remaining negative space. But alas, in this timeline it just felt awkward! So very quickly, because I didn’t want to stay up all night… I added in the “dress”.
If I’m being honest I still have mixed feelings about that final element, but overall I still think it looks decent! Hope you guys enjoyed it at least - and until next time!
