Many centuries ago, a young kraken swam up the depth of the Thames, hoping to feast upon the heart of the city we now call London — and on its people too! But the giant Gogmagog saw it pass and would not stand for this, for he meant to do just the same! So he threw a spear of living oak that pierced that kraken to its heart, pinning it to the bottom of the Thames. But not killing it, for kraken are undying. Through the years, the wood has grown through the kraken's flesh, and the oak-kraken has grown great and strange on the waters and mud of the Thames, hoping that one day, some fool will dislodge the spear, and it may finally eat out on the Southbank… . #WeirdLondon #hookland #psychogeography #ThamesPath #riverthames #Rainham #kraken #tellingstories #WalkYourWay #remotelondon #LondonLife #ThisIsLondon #LoveLondon #ExploreLondon #MySecretLondon #DiscoverLondon #LondonDetails #LondonGuide #PrettyCityLondon #HiddenLondon #London #flaneur #flâneur #wood #history #mudflats #gogmagog #Thames (at RSPB Rainham Marshes) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbih0-Wt25-/?utm_medium=tumblr
