Location | Wekerle Estate, Budapest, Hungary⠀ ⠀ In the end of the 19th century, commercial developers were building densely packed and large multi-story apartment houses in narrow streets for new inhabitants. A lot of the people came from outside the cities as a cause of urbanisation, and were not comfortable without the green nature and fresh air. A famous architect, József Fleischl, suggested building planned housing estates, following the ideas of the Ebenezer Howard Garden city movement.⠀ ⠀ The Wekerle estate is one such area where one of the prime ministers supported the idea of building comfortable, human-scale housing estates. This support was essential for the creation of the garden city atmosphere.
