I don't feel like I'm starting a race. I feel like I'm setting out on an expedition. I didn't understand why @gordo_and_the_moving_image kept asking if I felt like an explorer when he interviewed me in Melbs, but now I do. Because it's the only way to describe how I feel today. Last night felt like we were at the dock about to embark for Antartica, and I know that we will be allies not competitors. While it's very simple to keep spinning the pedals, the vast distances will mean that a small error in judgment will compound quickly into something that forces a withdrawal. Completing this event is the only goal, and so much of that will depend on my preparation off the bike.
