Really poorly explained Yrjö, Hibiki, and Taro lore
!! TW: mentions of assault !!
Ah yes my favorite love triangle…originally they were gonna be polyamorous (in the really super early stages of this story AKA just a whole different story) but it just doesn’t work out which you’ll definitely understand why by the end of this explanation.
Yrjö came along in the council a year before Taro did, and during that time Hibiki and Yrjö became friends. That whole situation is an explanation in itself but I’ll save that for another time.
Taro comes along now and they’re very respectful of all the members, including Hibiki (referring to him as Ishii-Sama for awhile to show respect) because they didn’t know any better, but Hibiki is very quick to shoot down any connection that the two could have had.
Hibiki is ridiculously mean to Taro, more so than he is to any other member. Taro, being in a really vulnerable place (I mean- they were just killed by their ex boyfriend), gives Hibiki the benefit of the doubt and assumes they must be doing something wrong.
On the other hand, Yrjö has been nothing but kind to Taro. They find Yrjö really helpful in comforting them through all the stress they’ve felt about…well, death. They also trust Yrjö’s opinion of Hibiki since they seem to be close. This ends up giving them a false sense of security.
Years go by and Hibiki only gets worse. Taro starts to give up on believing in Yrjö’s “he’ll get better” talk. But this turns into jealously. Taro becomes a little obsessed with Yrjö, always wanting to be around him and have his reassurance. But of course Yrjö spends most of his time with Hibiki, and the last thing Taro wants to do is be around Hibiki. Taro can’t fathom why Yrjö would care at all about Hibiki and it bugs them constantly.
The final nail in the coffin for Taro being tolerant to Hibiki is when Hibiki kisses them without their consent (this is also a whole other story for another day- I remember I made a post on my alt account once that was like “yall realize Hibiki is actually a bad person right” this is what I meant). Taro doesn’t tell anyone about this but the at the time No.3.
After this Taro gets a little gossipy with Eloise which is when they hear about the brainwashing theory. Basically the council believe that Yrjö was brainwashed by Hibiki when they first met (because of a whole situation that happened 😭 guys I’m trying to keep this short) which explains why Yrjö is so close with him. Taro almost immediately buys into this theory and ever since has been on the look out for a way to “cure” Yrjö (I’ll let you in on a secret though and it’s that Yrjö isn’t brainwashed).
You may be wondering, well why does Hibiki hate Taro so much? You may know that Hibiki is Chinese but grew up in Japan. He experienced a lot of xenophobia from the Japanese which made him ashamed of his culture and self. The Japanese also are the ones who tore him from his homeland in the first place. His life he can really only describe as miserable, and he is often quoted saying that he’s happier dead than he was alive. Taro, being Japanese, makes an excellent punching bag for all of Hibiki’s pent up anger and resentment. He knows that what he does to Taro is wrong, and that’s why he does it. It also doesn’t necessarily matter to Hibiki that Taro didn’t do anything to him personally, it’s more so the craving of revenge.
That begs the question, how does Yrjö feel about all this? Yrjö started off on good terms with Taro, but they just started to fade away as the years went on. The whole brainwashing conspiracy only feeds Yrjö’s negative feels towards the Council. Yrjö was drawn to Hibiki because he was an outcast, just like how he was when he was alive. Yrjö dealt with a lot of ableism and constantly being treated as if he couldn’t think for himself. He had barely anyone to support him. Hibiki understood part of his pain, and so they bonded really well. So everyone suddenly claiming that he is being used as a pawn and can’t think for himself reminds him of his past. During the current timeline in the story, Yrjö tends to be distanced from most of the Council.
Anyways, these three are the most important characters other than Santi and Jökull.
In the present timeline of the story, Taro is often in situations with Hibiki because Taro is the only one who is actually brave enough to try and do something about his behavior. This actually does end up working and changing Hibiki for the better (slowly but surely).
Meanwhile, Yrjö is often an enabler of Hibiki’s bad decisions even though he tries not to be. In a way, he has the same crave for revenge that Hibiki does, but in the sense that he wants the others to see him as independent rather than a leech. Sometimes he enjoys the bittersweet revenge of Hibiki tormenting other members.
anyways tag yapping yay! thanks for reading if you did suffer through that btw you’ve got an awesome attention span my friend
I think most of us just have that aesthetic because the future looks quite bleak, we are living in such a crazy, active world. We are constantly notified of news, we are like a computer that is never turned off, therefore our aspirations for the future (which aquarius rules) are not as glamorous. We see millennials struggle to buy houses and to pay rent, we see the politicians of the world get worse, so it’s unsurprising most of us might relate to the ‘sad’ aesthetic.
im assuming youre referencing this post and yeah it sure does ! like gen z was literally born into a war and they're supposed to function as if theyre not, they come off as lighthearted but deep down they know that this world is pretty shitty right now and there's not much we can do about it. go off anon! you're speaking the truth! literally we are struggling, like our economy is collapsing, so many wars, and a whole fucking pandemic ! this is why we make memes, to get through it ! but you are correct anon
