Napoleon Cake: When I was little , before I knew Napoleon as a historical figure, I associated his name with a type of cake that my mom loved to buy in our local pastry stores. The Napoleon cake is one of the variants of the French “mille-feuille”,which consists of layers of crispy pastry filled with a custard cream. There are several versions of the origin of the name, but the real relation between this pastry and Napoleon is still a mystery. Wellington beef: It is said that the Duke of Wellington used to be obsessive about a dish of beef, mushrooms, truffles, Madeira wine, and pâté cooked in pastry, and it has been since named in his honour. Again, the origin of the name remains unclear. Dongpo Pork: Su Shi(苏轼), art name Dongpo(东坡), was a Chinese writer, poet, painter, calligrapher, pharmacologist, gastronome, and a statesman of the Song dynasty. Legend has it that during Su Dongpo's life of poverty during his banishment to Hangzhou, he improved on the traditional process of stewing pork: he braised the pork, added huangjiu (yellow wine), then slowly stewed it on low heat. The dish became very popular and is still considered a signature dish of Zhe Jiang region. #food #foodnames #chinesedish #dongpopork #wellingtonbeef #napoleoncake #sliceoflife #webcomic #tinyeyescomics https://www.instagram.com/p/BuyoA3vhL16/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=8d6pjxmtcbp
