any advice on how to write climbing class fluff (or basically just something on how to write the characters? i just have a pretty hard time portraying them right i think)
hmm this is hard bc i SUCK! at this. you really have to get into the minds of the characters.. and decide how you want to portray them, like head canon wise. in Def. Should’ve Paid More Attention in Climbing Class, I portrayed Chris as more anxious about his crush on Josh, and very reserved, while Josh seemed more outgoing. Honestly, i think they are more evenly matched, but you also kinda need to count in who’s perspective you are looking out from. I feel like you generally don’t feel confident when speaking to a crush, especially if you feel like you could ruin the friendship you have with them. In both THE BRO JOB and DSHPMAICC, the narrator seems to be the less dominant one. I TOTALLY DIDN’T PLAN THAT. It also takes practice. I feel like the characterization in BroJ was better. I felt like Chris and Josh were more evenly matched and closer to their nature as characters. Also I had kick ass editors, which helps. Another thing was that I broke away from the dialogue! DSHPMAICC has so much dialogue from the game, which isn’t bad but it doesn’t give you a ton to develop the characters your own way. The whole Sam x Ash side plot was derived solely from breaking away from what those characters did.
basically, i think it amounts to practice, and that’s not bad. characterization is the hardest part of fan fiction in my opinion. i doubt you will even see my response and I’m sorry it took so long I’m the worst. it probably won’t help if you don’t know my fan fiction (both on ao3 under “kiah” )but send me anything you write and i would love to work it with you! write lots and write often!! unlike me!!
