he’s not sure about any of this. not the crew , not this vulcan... & certainly not no god forsaken tests ! HAH. it was almost a laugh. if the idea of being on a table didn’t scare him so goddamn much , that is. but how could some emotionless chick from some sandy , red planet , possibly understand ( or care ) what a creature like himself would have gone through ? they’d been conversing for some time now. which he realizes is aiding in warming up to the woman rivalling drax in literal-ness. speaking not only about retrieving this new form of space travel from the discovery crew , but also of acquiring a few of their phasers. & on an unrelated note... he’s already decided to see if he could get a look at the weapon system’s inner workings. try to figure out how to arm the milano with photon torpedoes. though what she wants in exchange is .... well , it’s asking too much ! “listen. can’t we come up with something a little less invasive ?” he had already lashed out. “i mean there ain’t nothin’ interesting about me , anyway.” a last ditch effort. though he knew getting the spores was all up to him at this point.

After so long on his own, one might imagine him craving companionship, but he didn’t. From the moment he entered the mess hall, he had a single minded focus about him that he wasn’t about to compromise. Get in, get a meal from the synthesizer (chicken adobo since it was a favorite), and, with a deep breath, he walked over to the table occupied by his target.
Michael Burnham.
Not a single word uttered as he sat down across from her despite the empty tables in the mess hall, he took a bit of his food before looking up at her. Even as he took the time to finish chewing and wipe his mouth with a napkin, he knew what it was he wanted to say. “So, you’re the reason for this war, huh?”

HEART rushed as the door opened and Sylvia walked in. Michael’s hand moved to her heart and left a sigh go. “ You scared me. ” Which wasn’t usual, but she had been attending to certain wounds. Her lip was broken, and she thought her hand was damaged as well. Nevertheless, she shrugged. “ I am alive. It is enough. ”
Tilly frowned and shook her head. Friends didn’t let friends stay hurt.
“Who did this to you? Do I need to go report somebody? We should go to the medbay, make sure everything’s okay.” She forced herself to slow down. Less words. Calmer demeanor. “Let me help you.”

For once nothing on the discovery needs their attention, there’s no alarm bells, no computer beeps, no fires that needed the CSO to put out. For once it was just him and her in the quiet confines of his quarters, scarcely any other sound besides their breathing. There’s a lot he wants to ask her about, ‘what it was like on Vulcan?’ and ‘how did she adapt?’ and he wants to know more about Sarek and her mother. There is so much he wants to ask, but instead, he’s quiet, watching her for a long moment. It is in this moment that he decides to shift slightly, resting his head against her thigh, careful, gently. “Is this okay? If it’s too much, just...tell me?” He doesn’t know her boundaries, so maybe he’s pushing a little bit, but....the worst thing she could say is move.

It was very odd to be on a ship that he had technically been captain of without ever having set foot on it before today. Gabriel had barely been conscious when he was brought aboard. He recognize the sound of a transport beam and felt his weakened body held up by someone he could have sworn sounded like Katrina Cornwell on one side. The other woman he didn’t recognize. He was pretty out of it though.
Hours passed with Lorca reliving a lot of what he’d gone through with his body, but in a healing fashion for once. The doctors aboard the Discovery were excellent and Kat was by his side through much of it, explaining what had happened. Breaking the news of the Buran and how he’d been replaced with an imposter for nearly two years. It was---a lot to take in and Gabriel stayed silent for most of it. Crew members would occasionally poke their head into medbay or make excuses for needing to stop by that were rather obvious, just to get a look at the captain who was not their captain. He didn’t blame them for being curious but being avoided for something he didn’t do was rather tiresome.
Katrina promised to return, but of course Gabriel understood she was clearly very busy with the war. From what she’d told him, the ship was still on Q'onoS but beneath the planet’s surface in the caves. Lorca felt he’d much rather be out of there and flying far away through space but their mission was apparently vital.
It was Dr. Pollard who returned first and asked if Gabriel was okay for a visitor who he guessed was the woman standing a bit back. Lorca recognized her as one of the ones who’d brought him on board. He had no clue what this woman could possibly want but the break from silence was welcomed. “Hmm--You’re Burnham, right?”
❝ well, you don’t need to understand it, but I just KNOW that’s not what we’re supposed to do. ❞

“ So, your area is Xenobiology? ”
Uhura began, fascinating [ [ d r i p p i n g ] ] from her tone. Not sarcasm, for once.
“ What made you choose that instead of Xenolinguistics? I’m biased. Also, a little curious as to why you would pick it. ” She adjusted in her seat, folding the right leg GRACEFULLY over the left.
