ok here is my 2 cents on osomatsu san episode 24 and 25. prepare for werely rambling
there will be spoilers here!!
i teared up for sure. this episode hit very close to home for me, especially when oso comes home and only ichi is there (although asleep at first) the loneliness there got me. hard.
but this time around seemed better compared to the last season’s second to last episode. that one felt like they were more running away from home where this one is more like working as a team. they’re still all living together, still helping around the house. it’s more like the next step for their lives. it was satisfying to see.
the thought that kept running through my mind was “they’re growing up! its baby steps, but they’re doing it. they’re doing just fine.” I kept seeing myself too because of my current experiences. it was a well done episode, in my opinion.
now what i’d like to see in episode 25 and into the possibility of a season 3 (cross fingers for season 3) is a continuation of this.
i’m not talking about like last season where it pretty much had like 5 minutes of continuation then threw it out the door. i’m talking like, even though they still get into antics, they still do wacky, ridiculous stuff. they still have these baby steps into “adulthood” they they work around.
the example that runs through my crazy brain right now is How I Met Your Mother. they had crazy situations and antics as well, but occasionally something would happen, aka the couple in there got married and so their friend/roommate moved out. it had a change in the show but not so much so that it put an end to the silliness.
I would love to see osomatsu follow something similar where they still are silly, still do crazy stuff but now they have to work around, well, work! as an adult you learn how to balance enjoying stuff vs non-fun stuff. aka hobbies vs work. hanging out with friends vs responsibilities
having a job shouldn’t change who you are and/or what you enjoy doing. you can still have fun while having responsibilities. you just have to do more planning.
i very much love the part where Oso gets what i’m assuming is his first paycheck. iyami gives him that sweet temptation of treasure hunting. it sucks he can’t go because he has work so he can’t just up and go, but i was so proud when he told him no.
but take dekapan for example. it’s been shown that he has a “normal” job yet he is seen with his friends goofing around. he’s figured how to balance the two.
I’m really hoping that they let these boys grow. but not change who they are. let them still be NEETS but let them take baby steps too.
