Jacqueline Davis (Begay) || || Taken || Werewolf || Kawennahere Devery Jacobs
Most of the time Jacky was of the mind that her peoples’ stories were just that, stories. Something to tell the kids to keep them inside after the sun went down. Something to tell each other to give encouragement and build bravery. Maybe even a psychotherapeutic allegory to work through interpersonal issues when it came to disagreements within the tribe. A few times in her life it occurred to her that the stories might be true, that Navajo Wolves and Witches could exist, but never so much as the night she went out to look for a lost sheep and was found three days later with three broken ribs, a broken arm, and a torn-up and bitten leg.
While some people chalked it up to an animal attack, other looked at Jacky with caution in their eyes and darkness in their hearts. The looks were enough to make Jacky nervous on her own land. Her family tried hard to be supportive, after all Jacky was their baby. Jacky tried to put it all behind her, even if it was a Navajo Wolf, they couldn’t be mad at her forever for the attack. If the bad medicine had infected her, there were a few rituals they could try to fix it, ways that would turn the bad medicine back on her attacker.
All that changed after the next full moon. The change was painful and terrifying, and Jacky woke up to 5 missing sheep and panic in the pit of her stomach. She couldn’t stay with her family and put them at risk. They performed an Enemy Way ritual to try and relieve Jacky of her bad medicine, but they couldn’t change her mind. She took a truck, her camping gear, and the rumors she heard about hidden lands of monsters and started looking. Soon enough she found Soapberry Springs, maybe the town knew that Jacky needed solace, maybe it just didn’t see a point in turning away another wolf, but the young woman made it in.
Now Jacky wants to find a way to get rid of the wolf that takes control once a month, but might find more than she bargained for in the surprisingly friendly town.
Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things? “After everything that’s happened to me, I don’t think there is a way to do things right anymore. All my life, even if I didn’t believe some of the stories, I lived by them. I kept corn pollen at my neck, I kept a turquoise charm in my pocket, and none of it protected me. I think the only thing anyone can do in this life is try to do the right thing, but knowing what the right thing is, now that’s the difficult part.”
What’s something you know you do differently than most people? “I know the way I talk can be very round-about, that’s a Dinee thing. We think being blunt is incredibly rude, and that talking about the sheep and the weather and your third cousin once removed before getting to our actual question or desired topic of conversation is the correct and polite way to go. I try not to send non-Dinee through the never ending throes of conversation when I’m talking to them, but sometimes I fall back into the way of talking that I think of as polite and respectful.”
I've been practicing for inktober these past three days but I really loved this one of Jamie and mike being cute in their Halloween costumes so I decided to post it 💕
Tobiah “Toby” Hauser ║ Werewolf ║ Taken ║ Eddie Redmayne
Introduction
Toby was always the afterthought. His outgoing, vivacious sisters always stealing the limelight. While his parents fought and his sisters competed, Toby had his music. No one listened to him play, an artistic path in life wasn’t something the Hauser’s and Thompson’s agreed with. Toby was to be a lawyer or a doctor or a teacher, and nothing more.
He wasn’t athletic, so he wasn’t on a sports team like his parents kept pushing. He was considered a nerd and an outcast, even though he wasn’t academic. He was just…Toby, and that wasn’t good enough for anyone. Nobody cared about ‘Toby’, just the person they wanted him to be that never was. The rough and tumble son, the handsome, strapping lad that had all the ladies swooning. That wasn’t Toby
He got along with his sister’s growing up, but they were so similar, and Toby wasn’t like them. Shivonne was loud and angry, demanding attention by disobedience, until she left for college and rarely came home. Alannah was sneaky, pitting everyone against each other for her own amusement and so she could do what she wanted while the parents competed, until she moved to L.A. and became an internet star, then she very rarely ever came home. So, it was just Toby left.
Toby very rarely ever ventured out of Hurricane. It was only when he heard news that his sister had been on the run from her ex-boyfriend that he wanted some answers. When he arrived in Seattle, finding out about his sister’s whereabouts, that he began asking the wrong sort of people. On the wrong night to be out alone, the wrong people attacked him, but the right people found him. His nephew’s grandmother drove him all the way to Soapberry Springs, where she told Toby he would find his sister, and that there would be people there to help him figure out his new life as werewolf.
How well do you take criticism? “I think, even though I am a much more passive person than the rest of my family, that the genes I have contradict that. Whenever I’m criticized, I just nod and say “I’ll work on being better”, or whatever the appropriate answer might be, but in my head I’m angry, and I want to point out all of their flaws and mistakes. I never would, but the feeling is still there.”
Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things? “I worry about both things at the same time. I was brought up being told that I had to be this perfect son, never quite hitting the mark, I have the self-criticizing nature because I constantly think I’m not good enough, and want to do everything perfectly. But at the same time, I want to do what’s right. I’m not out for personal gain, I want the people around me to be happy and safe, and so I have to do right by them. It can get very conflicting in my head, sometimes.”
I'm reading The Wolf at the Door and well it's my second time trying to read it, because I was really enjoying the first time. Just got busy ): If you have read it, no spoilers. I haven't finished it!
Anyway, I'd really love to try plot something based the premise of this book. I linked the book in case ya'll need something to read but really to look at the summary and see if spikes your interest.
It's modern crime sprinkled with a hint of supernatural bc there are werewolves. c:
I'd like to use my muse Sasuke but if you have someone else you'd like to write with, please let me know. I'm sure we can work something out.
Ryden Bolt || Taken || Werewolf || Stephen James
death tw, violence tw, murder tw
He smoked his first cigarette at twelve, rolled up his first joint at thirteen, got into his first bar fight at fourteen and the first tattoo right after that. Dad out of the picture, mom working double shifts to get them by. You’d think that would motivate the little rascal to rise above the gutter? Not in the part of good ol’ London he lived in. Ryden narrowly missed juvy after stealing a car and driving it into a ditch at fifteen, ending his teen years as a high school dropout. Between gangs, drugs and a bit of rock'n'roll, Ryden was lucky to survive till his twenties, given his self-destructive behavior.
Until a girl happened. It’s always about a girl, isn’t it? And for some reason, they’re always named Sarah. Ryden got all straightened up for his Sarah, got a decent job as a construction worker and rented a dingy little place where she could hang her artsy photos and paintings. She was an art major and she read poetry. She had dark hair and sometimes snorted when she laughed. She put up with his snark and liked the stories behind his tattoos, even if they were a bit exaggerated.
But you don’t get to have a past like Ryden without consequences. One night, Ryden returned home to his Sarah dead on the floor, a pool of blood like a red halo around her head. A group of thugs he owed some money to had broken in, taking bitter revenge. They didn’t find Ryden in, panicked, and killed the girl when she screamed she’d call the police.
The next thing Ryden knew was that he was at a funeral, standing over a freshly buried grave. A strange man in black had approached him then, giving vague introductions and dubious connections to Sarah’s family side. In return for a favor, he promised to give Ryden a rare gift that would change his life forever. Naturally, Ryden declined, finding the man crazy for asking. Turns out Ryden didn’t have much of a choice there, as the man returned the next night, leaving Ryden on the floor of his apartment with a bloody bite mark on his shoulder. Needless to say, this bite had indeed changed Ryden forever.
After this, he moved about, running away from the man in black, his roamings taking him to America, to a town called Soapberry Springs. A fresh start, but same old up-to-no-good lifestyle, working odd jobs and living like there’s no tomorrow. Until time runs out and the devil comes to collect his dues…
How well do you take criticism? “Not well. Got something to say to my face? Don’t. Talking behind my back? Don’t do that either. In the immortal words of Liam Neeson, ‘I will find you, and I will…’ just slap your face, alright, I’m not a psycho. Chill.”
To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken? “I am completely innocent here. If my fist finds itself on a course straight to your face, don’t blame me. It’s fate.”
Miles Cook ║ Werewolf ║ Taken ║ Chris Messina
Introduction
He comes from a family of cops, who also have various military based backgrounds, so it was expected of both Miles and his older brother David to follow suit. However, David was interested in another path that didn’t involve so much conflict and violence. Miles on the other hand, thrived in it. He began his training at the Police Academy as soon as he graduated from high school, and since his father was the current Chief of Police, he was easily accepted into the ranks.
Miles had gotten his girlfriend, Bethany Bailey pregnant out of wedlock, so they set up a rushed wedding and not long afterward, Jane was born. A year of being happily married passed when Miles left the police force to enlist in the military. He was planning on returning to the force after completing his mission in Afghanistan, but tragedy struck in the form of an IED. Everyone in his squad was killed, save for himself and one other. They both lost more than just their team. His friend lost a leg, and Miles the sight in his left eye and his ability to see color. There would be no more returning to the force now that he was half blind and his world had been reduced to varying shades of gray.
It’s safe to say that the event forever changed him. He was haunted by the explosion and by the faces of his squad that would never come home. He mourned their loss just as much as he mourned his sight and the loss of his career in the police force. He was scarred, mentally and physically, and would never be the same. He turned to alcohol to ease his pain. He went from protecting his country to sweeping up popcorn and cleaning toilets. It only made him drink more. However, the birth of their second child, Ellie, helped spur him to change. He even tried going to AA meetings to get his alcoholism under check.
During an annual camping trip with some of his friends from the force, they were attacked in the night. It had been a full moon. Everyone was killed. Everyone, except for Miles. He awoke with blood gushing from a vicious bite on his shoulder. The doctors said it was from a wolf, but Miles had never seen a wolf that big before. The event shook him, the loss of his friends destroyed him, and he relapsed. A month after the camping incident, Miles almost killed his family. He didn’t know anything had changed about him until the night of a full moon came around and the change started happening right in his living room. He had been passed out on the couch, the television still on, bottles of beer littered around him when it happened. Beth came running out to see what was happening and was horrified at the sight of her husband, writhing on the floor as his body literally broke and transformed before her eyes. If she hadn’t the sense to grab the kids and drive to his brother’s house, he would have probably killed them.
The next day, Miles woke up to the house destroyed. His brother showed up, explained what had happened, and then handed him the divorce papers. In order to learn more about his new life as a werewolf, Miles started searching around for others of his kind. First, he tried to find the werewolf who had done this to him. He returned to the campsite and though the scent was faint, was able to follow it back to a diner along the highway. He subtly asked around and learned about a town, only a few hours drive away. Thus, Miles arrived in Soapberry Springs for the first time. It’s been five years since, and he lost custody of his children when his history of alcoholism and violence was brought up during the court proceedings. He is only allowed supervised visitation at Bethany’s discretion, but since the divorce was finalized, she hasn’t contacted him at all. His only connection is through his brother, who still checks in on them every so often.
To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken? “Probably fucking none. I feel like… my life is on a crash course or something. There’s so much bad shit in the world and just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, bam. Suddenly I’m a werewolf and all my friends are dead. Then, just when I think things might get better, or at least back to normal. Bam. Lose my wife and kids. At this point, I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop. It’s been a few years so far and nothing drastically horrible has happened yet, but I’m just waiting for it. It’s bound to happen and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
What are you most grateful for? “My girls. Hands down. My kids are the best thing that ever happened. Even through all the bad shit that happened to me, I wouldn’t go back and change anything. You know that butterfly effect theory? Where if you go back in time and kill a butterfly, going back to the future would potentially result in a totally different world? Yeah. Even though I’ve gone through some shit, I wouldn’t change it for the world. I wouldn’t want a world where they didn’t exist. The day Janie was born. God damn it, I never saw something so small in my life. You know, she held onto my finger for hours. Even when she was sleeping, her little chubby hand was just wrapped around my finger the entire time. They say you become a man the first time you make love to a woman, but no. You become a man when you hold your child for the first time. If I never amount to anything else in my life, at least I can be proud of them.”
