11. The quiet moments in a relationship are sometimes just as important are the verbal ones; describe an important moment where the characters in your story shared a quiet moment (like sitting together while reading, watching tv with one another, bumping elbows in the kitchen in the morning as they make coffee, etc), and tell us why you consider it so important.

So! I mentioned in the last ask about their morning routines. I think those are the quiet little moments for them. They spend alot of time together before moving in together, but I think them moving in is the big moment for them. Right after they move in together (and they're nervous as hell) and they're still working out their routines, Luke gets upset that he and Ashton aren't seeing as much of each other because of their jobs. On one of his nights off, Luke makes dinner for them both, the mac and cheese dish that is Ashton's favorite, and Ashton comes home while he's finishing up. He drags Ashton over to the couch and they eat dinner together while watching a movie (some Audrey Hepburn thing), and Luke ends up sitting in his lap while they're eating because he wants to be close. Ashton hooks his chin over Luke's shoulder and they sit together that way until Luke dozes off in Ashton's lap. He gets some kisses to wake up and they wash the dishes together, pressed close and bumping elbows. Ashton keeps pulling Luke in for kisses and Luke keeps tangling his wet fingers in Ashton's curls and kissing him back. They drink tea on the couch and take their showers and curl up in bed together before they go to sleep. Ashton pays the thought back a few nights later by making Luke the eggplant parmesan dish he loves and taking him to the movie theater to watch something, holding his hand the whole time during the movie and sharing popcorn and getting ice cream on the way home.

I consider it so important because, like this ask says, it's the little quiet moments. It's getting to spend them together. This is Luke's first real relationship and this is the first one where Ashton is free to be himself. It's knowing what their favorite meals are and making time for each other and being close. It's them letting each other know that they love and care about each other and that they're both in it together.

14. How does your main character feel about being affectionate? How easily and readily can they say “I love you” when they’re ready?

I'm gonna answer this for Luke and Ashton. Luke is very physically affectionate. He likes to touch Ashton's shoulder and hug him and press close. He's very touchy with Michael and KayKay and Sierra too. He hangs off everyone and presses kisses to their cheeks. He melts all over Ashton. Hangs off his shoulders and kisses his cheeks and, when there's no one around or they're home, he likes to press kisses to Ashton's lips while giggling. He holds hands on the street and cuddles on the couch and in the bed and he loves it.

Ashton is not physically affectionate in the same way. He's been "hiding" for the last 10 years or so. He's used to keeping his distance and putting space between them and not being allowed to be open. Luke's open physical affection surprises him at first and they talk about it and what Ashton is comfortable with and understanding what is comfortable and makes them both happy, especially with Luke being ace and making sure Ashton is respectful of his space and what he wants. He does like to hold Luke's hand and kiss him and snuggle into him as often as he can. He likes to kiss Luke's nose and the back of his hand and they love each other.

When it comes to saying "I love you?" It takes them a while to say it out loud. Ashton writing the album for Luke was his "I love you." Luke sharing his story with Ashton was his "I love you." But I don't think they say the words out loud for a while. They know they love each other they just find it hard to say. I think it's actually on the way back from Ashton's family's Thanksgiving. They're driving back and holding hands on the center console and Luke's singing along to Kate Bush on the radio and laughing and Ashton looks over and says "I love you" because he does. He got to take Luke home and love him and Luke called Anne Marie "mom" and she laughs and hugs him and Luke fits in so well with them all and Ashton is just so overcome with love. He says "I love you" and Luke makes Ashton pull over so he can kiss him and press the words to Ashton's lips. He says I love you easily and happily. After that first time, they say it all the time. They love saying "I love you"
