After many months, many questions and comments on whether this one shot would be continued into a series. I bring you the “We” Series.
The next few parts are loosely written and planed out so expect them soon! Enjoy and as always let me know what you think! Special shout out to @junkieshep for helping me with the linking issues :)
“Please don’t come near me. I promise I will throw up on you.”
It had been three weeks since Amelia had found out she was pregnant, and after a visit with Arizona, that put her at just about 11 weeks.
Within a day of having the pregnancy confirmed, it was like the baby needed to make its presence known, inducing as Amelia was referring to it as “all day sickness”.
“You need to eat something.”
He shoved toast under her hunched over form, that was currently residing at their kitchen island. She pressed fingers to her nose, in what he only assumed was some way to ward off nausea. She took a quick bite of toast and then slid the plate back to him.
“Okay no. Your child is trying to kill me. It’s like it’s trying to shove all my insides a way that they medically can’t go.”
Owen had to hide the small smirk as he disposed of the toast. Pregnant Amelia was even feistier then a not pregnant Amelia.
“I see you smirking over there Owen Hunt.”
He could hear the amusement in her voice, he smiled as he sheepishly turned around and was met with a pretend angry look.
He chuckled, walking around the island and behind her chair, as he leaned over her, wrapping his arms around her.
“I’m sorry that you don’t feel well.”
His scratchy five o'clock shadow tickled her cheek as he kissed it. She sighed in content.
“I have surgery in an hour. I’m really hoping to not need to step out again. Edwards knows something is up. I’ve got to tell her soon.”
“I’m all for telling people, but didn’t you want to wait until 12 weeks.”
“No yeah… That’s what do you. Unless you end up pregnant and in rehab and don’t realize you’re pregnant until you’re 22 weeks along.”
That’s another thing Amelia had been doing that he wasn’t sure how to deal with. She’d make these sarcastic comments about something to do with last pregnancy. Without broaching on being preachy or over stepping, Owen didn’t know what to say, so if he happened to be near her like now, he’d just squeeze her a little tighter.
Amelia grabbed Owen’s hand as she hopped off the stool. She grabbed her leather jacket and her bag, before turning back to Owen.
“Here” he said handing her a thermos as she took it looking at him confused. “Chamomile tea. I figured it might help.”
She smiled softly at him as she leaned on her tiptoes and kissed him. They pulled away as she adjusted her bag and headed towards the front of the apartment.
“Eat something when you get there.”
Amelia watched from behind Edwards shoulder praising her mentee on her good work.
“Edwards you’re really racking in those neuro hours huh? Pretty soon you’ll be Shepherd’s boss.”
Amelia narrowed her eyes as she watched Nathan smile teasingly behind his mask.
“Edwards I’ll meet you five to round on our other patients”
Amelia walked with Nathan to the scrub room, ripping off her gown. She pressed her fingers lightly to the side of her stomach, trying to shake off the dizziness feeling that had been looming for the past half hour.
Crap. She was being obvious. She smiled and nodded as she went to move past him to get past him to grab a paper towel.
But suddenly there a sharp piercing cramping in her lower abdomen, the slight dizziness she felt before engulfing her and her vision.
She felt herself sway unsteadily before nearly falling, Nathan reaching out and grabbing her before she slammed into the tile. She felt herself leaning against him as he carefully kneeled, trying to keep her upright.
She tried to blink past the dizziness, focusing on Nathan, who was loudly hollering at Edwards, who had just appeared, to get Owen. She gripped his forearm, as he was pressing fingers softly to her racing pulse and suddenly clammy body.
“I…. I’m pregnant. Please don’t let anything happen to the baby.”
And that was the last thing she said before everything went black.
She felt her hand being weighed down by something as she blinked a few times. She opened her eyes to the brightness and looked around to see a hospital room. She looked to see Owen’s hand covering hers, his body hunched forward as he slept.
At her movement, he too awoke with a slight start as he opened his eyes.
“Hi.” she hoarsely whispered, as he grabbed a cup of water nearby and handed it to her. “What happened?”
But Owen wasn’t and she knew it, he was trying to be compassionate but he was being short and curt.
“Amelia you passed out. You passed out because your sugar was so low because you’ve barely been eating. You started having cramps because you’re putting yourself at risk for miscarrying. You’re not taking care of yourself.”
She felt her face flush as she tried to unsuccessfully hold back the tears that were rapidly escaping.
Owen sighed and intertwined their fingers together again. She locked eyes with Owen as her tears turned into full on hiccupping sobs.
He shifted forward letting go of her hand and squeezing himself so he was sitting on the edge of the bed, pulling her completely into his arms.
“I’m not going anywhere Amelia. I’m here. You’re not doing this alone. I will be here every step of the way. But I can only do so much; you have to take of yourself. You have to take care of yourself for our child. This baby needs you.”
She nodded against him as she sniffled, her head resting against his shoulder. He pressed a kiss to her hair.
“I’m so scared. That this baby won’t be healthy.”
He sighed as she gripped tighter to him. He could feel hot tears soaking into his scrubs, as she tried to calm down.
“You have to trust that it will be. That our baby will be healthy and happy. We’re going to give our child such a great life.”
“What if I’m not enough… what if I’m not enough for this baby?”
He pulled away from her gently after hearing her admission; she warily looked at him with a swollen and tear splotched face. He gently ran his hand again at her cheek, her eyes fluttering shut in comfort.
“Amelia. You’re more than enough. You are always going to be more than enough. ”
She smiled, a watery smile as she in turn placed her hand against his face.
“You’re going to be the best Dad.”
He smirked and kissed her chastely, as one hand slipped to her waist, feeling the tiny bump that was barely there.
“You’re going to be the best Mom.”
Amelia smiled as they pulled apart and she scooted over a little to allow him to lay down beside her.
Owen chuckled a little at her dramatic tone. He nodded as she groaned slightly.
“Well not everyone. But pretty much everyone in our circle of people.”
Amelia nodded as she leaned her head against his shoulder.
“Well at least we won’t have to tell them. Go big or go home right?”
