What Could Have Been
One thing about Callista is that I have no doubt that if the apocalypse didn’t happen (and Feive Project wouldn’t have intersected with her life) she would have become a chef and living in the southern region in the US she would have opened her own restaurant and it would have been very popular. She’s happily married to Wesley. They didn’t fully keep their promise of having 7 kids, but they did have a dog named George.
Nicole would have been a 9-1-1 operator and she would have been one of the best in her district. She has weird hours so her fridge is always stocked with food Callista pre-made for her so she remembers to eat. She volunteers as a teacher’s aid for a school for the deaf. She doesn’t know why but she feels drawn to do it. She likes the kids but there’s not one she feels particularly close to, although she feels like there should be.
Both women mourn people they’ve never met although they don’t know why.
It’s a happy ending, a happy life, but is it really?
