zo + family
Zo’s dad, Thoms, is an intergalactic bounty hunter. He was a pretty good father when Zo was a baby, but an attempt to catch a criminal went wrong and the criminal escaped and went on to kill hundreds before he was caught. After that, Thoms got obsessive about bounty hunting and family came second.
The family moved a lot because of Thoms’ job. He was paranoid about his enemies and insisted on moving all the time.
Zo’s mom, Selene, got fed up with Thoms all the time for not spending enough time with the family. Whenever they would argue about it, Thoms would take Zo and her brothers on trips to different planets. Pretty much every time he would drop them off somewhere with some money and then go chase after a criminal (the real reason he was on the planet).
Aza despised those trips and would regularly complain about them but Zo thought they were kind of interesting. She liked going to different planets, even the sketchy ones. West idolized their dad and always wanted to see the bad guy.
Aza studied piloting and biology at ZU and did incredibly well in school. He wanted to get out of his parents’ house as quickly as he could.
He goes missing about a year and a half into his piloting career. His disappearance sends the family off the rails. Thoms was on the road to alcoholism already and losing his son didn’t help. Selene started popping pills and West dropped out of ZU to follow in his dad’s footsteps and become a bounty hunter.
Zo makes an effort to keep them from completely falling apart, but really, she’s unimpressed by her family’s reaction to Aza’s disappearance. Several times she’s considered cutting all contact with her family.
Not that her reaction to the disappearance is healthy. She obsessively looks for signs and clues as to wear he might be.
Zo had a very weird childhood because of her dad. Lots of moves, sometimes living in a space ship, learning how to hold her own on skeevy planets.
