As much as they’re spirit lifting fun, I’ve rarely had the chance to take in any festive parades. This includes my Golden State Warriors’ championship parades, since they always fall on weekdays when I have work. As such, I’m infinitely grateful that I don’t have to miss out on West Parade. You might recall the zeal we expressed when we featured the DIY bedroom synthpop project from West London a few months ago. Let’s all go for a sweet glide down the sound avenue with West Parade as he returns with Something In The Water, a glossy succulent, sexy grooving effusion of the artist’s funky bass and foggy synthpop. Its luscious retro-synths are soaked in warm nostalgia, while there’s an undeniable silky smooth panache to its glowing vocals, like Blood Orange gone Toro Y Moi. WEST PARADE, a DIY bedroom synthpop project from West London, lights up our radar with FLAT 65, an intoxicating sonic torsion whose dreamy lustrous yet shadowy slinking consistency is constructed out of foggy synthpop, glitchy electronica, and seductive lo-fi R&B. WEST PARADE already perked many ears two months ago when he released his first track, a demo entitled ABINGER which you can stream below. He ventures into lo-fi garage territory with the electronic cut, a hypnotic groover which kind of feels like a Blood Orange and Kaytranada meets Jamie XX collaboration.
