Things that happened at the Westburo-ish thing I saw yesterday
An elder man:
Referred to breasts as "Milk jugs."
called his wife his "servant"
stared at two lesbians kissing, then later told one that she was "attractive" and didn't "Look like Rosie Odonell" and she could "Find a man if she wanted."
said that he was "taken" but he knew how "desperate" all the girls in the crowd were "for a real man." Since "all the guys around here are kissing other guys."
This happened at Kansas State University. One of the most Conservative State Schools in the United States. The worst part? I went to make fun of them, take a selfie, try to make light of the situation, and I ended up crying.
Why?
Because my fellow students weren't being a good example of love. I get it. You're getting harassed, you're being called "whore," you're tired of being pushed around, and you can't believe that someone has the nuts to speak to you this way. But, running up to the women, making graphic sexual gestures, and screaming in their face isn't going to make the situation better. You're allowing them to victimize themselves. I ended up praying over the square for an hour, just for the hate to recede.
It was one of the most depressing things I've seen in my whole life.
There were maybe three to five people that spoke softly, didn't push the people around them, used polite words, didn't make physical contact.
Several people stood up and told people to stop swarming them and stop feeding into their need for attention. But, no one listened, and several members of the crowd shouted out that they were "having a good time."
I just watched from the sideline. I don't know what I feel. I don't know what point I'm trying to make. All I can say is it was horrible.
I understand that these people don't deserve respect. But, violence is only going to justify their actions in their own minds.
