The key to good storytelling is clearly defining the plot. If you can't summarise your story then you can't expect an audience to get what you are showing them. If you struggle with doing this for your musical try writing a summary of a show that you have seen. Try to sum up the plot of Wicked in 500 words trying to focus on what the biggest moments in the show are. Once you understand how these shows lay out their structure with the rise of tension to the climax and then the denouement you will be able to reflect this in your own plot! Some of the best ideas are the ones that you least expect. What are you afraid to start working on? Sometimes you might feel embarrassed or disappointed by an idea that you previously liked. Take a step back because you are probably too close to the project to really see the big picture.
