Making a Movie: Video Workshop
As part of our BFA experience we get to have workshops each quarter with professionals in different fields of design.
This quarter we got a chance to work with Andrew Lahmann and Jordan Donovan from P51 Pictures, to create our own short video. We got to not just be on a professional video shoot but also see everything that goes into making a film. Andrew and Jordan even found us a real client that needed a video:
Introducing Pass the Hat
"When most of us hear about tragic events in our community, we want to help. The problem is we often don't know how or have much to give. Until now.
It's only $2. For the cost of a pack of gum, you can experience the incredible feeling of true philanthropy. You don't have to be rich, that's the beauty of it. Our power is in our numbers. Every person counts and the more we have, the more impact your $2 makes.
Our mission at Pass The Hat is twofold. First, we help families. Second, we inspire and allow people to become philanthropists by making it easy and affordable for everyone. That means you.
Join us. Let's lift these families up. Let's make a difference. Let's Pass The Hat.
We are partnered with other local agencies like the American Red Cross, Mt Baker Chapter, Community Support Officers, Police departments, and others to identify and provide assistance where there is the greatest need. Meet our team and see the list of respected community leaders who are involved with Pass The Hat and responsible for distributing our funds".
Pass the Hat (namely Galen Emanuel, owner) really inspired us as a class to make the best video possible for them. You can tell that Galen is so passionate about his charity and life in general. It's not work for him it's something he feels he was born to do.
^ Here's Galen! Smiling as usual.
So, what did we do in this workshop?
Wrote a script
Filmed the 'movie': two cameras plus a third for B-roll footage

Title Sequence
Designed posters promoting Pass the Hat and the event where we will show a screening of the movie.
Gathered food and monetary donations for crew and actors from local businesses

Found and Arranged Shooting Locations
....And we will be showing our 'film' on December 10th at the Pickford Film Center to Galen, interested donors, and families Pass the Hat has helped. Thanks to EVERYONE who helped us with our project. We can't thank Galen, Andrew, and Jordan enough for this experience!
