BFA Portfolio Show!
We’re graduating! Hard to believe how quickly this year has flown by. We will be hosting our BFA portfolio show at 1927 Events in downtown Seattle on June 5th from 4-8. Come grab a drink and check out what we’ve been up to for the past year. There is lots of parking in the area and light refreshments will be provided. Can’t wait to see you there!

In celebration of Design Days Iron Street Printing came up to campus and screen printed with students! Passers-by could pick a t-shirt (designed by WWU design students) and then screen print it themselves with the help of the generous folks at Iron Street. A huge thank you to them for all their help!
Tomorrow we will have a talk by current and future BFA students about UX/UI design at 11:30 in Communications Facility. The events will conclude at night with keynote speaker Toby Grub, creative Director at Instrument. We are unbelievably excited to hear Toby speak and also to talk with him further Friday morning.

The most interesting phenomenon emerging from recent trends is not the silence of developers in the face of conflicting interests with operating system makers. Developers should be expected to bend towards the present incentive structure. What has been surprising is the response of designers, particularly visual designers: their eagerness to follow the trend toward flatness. A trend that ultimately goes against their interests. Even those few who have criticized flat design (who have rarely been rigorous in their critiques) generally bought the operating system makers' line of thought that UI design needed a radical rethinking. These visual designers lacked conviction in the integrity of their craft's history.

At the beginning of February we had the honor of taking a four day trip to San Francisco to visit firms and meet up with WWU alumni. One of our first stops was at Volume, where we had the opportunity to talk with Eric Heiman and learn about Volume's recent work and design strategy.
