If you haven’t seen the video from our visit to Portland with @westwardwhiskey, then you’re missing out and should head to @beautifulbooze to watch it. We are super proud of the video and loved hearing the company’s story from Christian himself. Now that it is out I wanted to share some behind the scenes images from our visit that include Natalie just wandering around and sitting on barrels, as usual. Though there are also images of the team behind the product and the brewer from @cascade.brewing, where they do wonderful things with sour ales. The final image is actually the wash, more commonly known as distiller’s beer, that is produced at the Westward distillery. This is a combination of PNW two-row pale ale malted barley, Sierra Nevada ale yeast, and water. I am scribbling about this because it is such an important step of the process that is often overlooked, and is a major contributing factor to the unique and delicious Westward Whiskey. All the staff at the distillery are actually ex-brewers who have re-directed their passion and expertise with beer and are putting it to use in the spirits industry.
