Every other Sci Fi Drama has lived in the shadow of Westworld S1 and y'all can die mad I'm right.
William getting seduced makes way more sense because at no point did he actually perceive the park as a threat.
Westworld makes no bones about the fact that William is a dumbass and a scumbag and a rapist. Meanwhile Vince is out here calling Carol Sturka a "hero" which makes me uneasy af.
Everything else about Westworld that's better written than Pluribus!
I love that with everything happening Sizemore is still just Some Guy. There’s corporate espionage and existential crises and the question of what constitutes truly being alive and he’s just some writer getting dragged into everything with no idea what’s happening
Rewatching S4 of Westworld now... yeah unfortunately my memory didn't deceive me. It fell off pretty hard. In ways that would take a few paragraphs to explain why. The dialogue just being less witty and more cliched is the most glaring problem, but I think the real weak link is that even for a mustache-twirling villain, Charlores is doing things that are out of character with who she was in S3. I can understand her wanting to be ruthless to protect her species, but neither side of this character should think humanity is all bad, and be willing to enslave people including innocent children. Why would she be baffled by the concept of the power of love, when I thought her whole reason for becoming a villain was that she was mad her human family got exploded? That's dumb!
S3 had goofy moments, but what Serac wanted more or less made sense, so the urgency to defeat him felt credible and the story still had a nice momentum. S4, the villain's motivations are cartoonish, so the stakes don't feel high, so the movement of all the characters feels aimless and rehashy.
S1 was lightning in a bottle that other sci fi dramas are still trying to recapture. S2 was just on par with any other good season of a prestige drama. S3 kinda jumped the shark but I'll defend it as still having a lot of style worth emulating. But S4? Eh.... I still think it's better than the best Marvel movies, but if you know me, you know how damning that is.
I still love this story. I still love these characters. But I feel like if we ever DO get a Season 5 or any sort of reboot, it will probably be for the best that we were forced to stop and recollect our thoughts first. Because S4 just feels lost. It has some foggy memory of what the show is supposed to feel like, but it's lost sight of the story it was put on earth to tell. Possibly because the story had already run its course three times over, but I don't really think that's the issue: you could have wrung at least 5 decent episodes out of an epilogue of what happened after Dolores saved the world; that's just not what we got, because Charlotte came along and anticlimactically un-saved it immediately afterwards.

Sitting and digesting Season 1. Will start Season 2 sometime this coming week.

Just… everything. EVERYTHING. Three episodes to go in the first season and I am as hooked as i have ever been. Truly some of the best philosophical science fiction I have ever had the privilege and pleasure of watching.
The twist that William is The Man in Black never fails. Never. That is one vile mf'er.
