The facts
I just want to shed a little light on some of the discussions I've had with people this week:
1. More than 480,000 deaths annually (including deaths from secondhand smoke) (Source: https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/health_effects/tobacco_related_mortality/)
2. Most patients report a history of using tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)-containing products. The latest national and state findings suggest products containing THC, particularly those obtained off the street or from other informal sources (e.g. friends, family members, illicit dealers), are linked to most of the cases and play a major role in the outbreak. As of October 8, 2019, 1,299* lung injury cases associated with the use of e-cigarette, or vaping, products have been reported to CDC from 49 states, the District of Columbia, and 1 U.S. territory. Therefore, CDC recommends that you should not use e-cigarette, or vaping, products that contain THC. (Source: https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/basic_information/e-cigarettes/severe-lung-disease.html)
3. However, the hazard to health arising from long-term vapor inhalation from the e-cigarettes available today is unlikely to exceed 5% of the harm from smoking tobacco. (Source: https://www.rcplondon.ac.uk/projects/outputs/nicotine-without-smoke-tobacco-harm-reduction-0)
4. However, the available evidence to date indicates that e-cigarettes are being used almost exclusively as safer alternatives to smoked tobacco, by confirmed smokers who are trying to reduce harm to themselves or others from smoking, or to quit smoking completely. (Source: https://www.rcplondon.ac.uk/projects/outputs/nicotine-without-smoke-tobacco-harm-reduction-0)
5. However, in the interests of public health it is important to promote the use of e-cigarettes, NRT and other non-tobacco nicotine products as widely as possible as a substitute for smoking in the UK. (Source: https://www.rcplondon.ac.uk/projects/outputs/nicotine-without-smoke-tobacco-harm-reduction-0)
6. In this study, the data suggest that any additional chemicals present in indoor air from the exhaled e-cigarette aerosol, are unlikely to present an air quality issue to bystanders at the levels measured when compared to the regulatory standards that are used for workplaces or general indoor air quality. (Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4454944/)
7. Under the conditions employed in our study, there was no measurable increase in any of the USA “EPA Method 29” metals [22] as well as aluminium and phosphorus during the vaping period compared with the no-vaping control session and background levels. (Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4454944/)
8. This finding supports the conclusions of other researchers that have stated there is no apparent risk to bystanders from exhaled e-cigarette aerosols [6,11,47]. (Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4454944/)
There is a lot of controversy around vaping nicotine products, particularly flavored nicotine products. Here are studies to show you that there are no concerns, and that the media is lying to you.
Vaping is a verb, not a noun. The substance being vaped is the concern here. THC products are found among the vast majority of patients have problems, not nicotine products. Some people do not want to discuss their usage of THC products as they may believe that they will be persecuted by the fullest extent of the law.
The media is lying to you. They want the clicks. They want the views. The CDC and the FDA are messing with public health. They want people to continue to smoke, otherwise they wouldn't have as many smoking-related illnesses, which means less doctor visits, less ER visits, less kick back from insurance companies, and less kick back to doctors.
The media is lying to you. States receive funding from the Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) and cannot afford to lose the billions of dollars Big Tobacco has given each state.
The media is lying to you.
