NEW VIDEO!!
Wow, this is the biggest revision of the WFTDA rules in a long time. The text is a LOT cleaner, too. I’m impressed!
Check out the small, speedy London blockers Ester Arocha & Juke Boxx.
Let’s take a closer look at that teamwork.
1/ Juke Boxx and Arocha escort Scald out of bounds while one London blocks acts as bridge and the 4th blockers plays offense.
2/ Juke Boxx and Arocha take the inside line to run back, which is a much shorter path than Scald’s outside lane (allowing them to bridge back further and reset before Scald can enter). Pay attention to the footwork and navigation through the pack to avoid the Rose blockers.
3/ Juke Boxx and Arocha communicate and seamless form a bridge at the back of the pack.
I had a shitty day and my right thigh is a bit swollen but it doesn’t hurt. It really saved my day when I passed the WFTDA Rules test! BAM!
WOOO, tonight we will be having a rules night with our refs! NO MORE studying the rules alone!!
WFTDA Hand Signals in Gifs, Part 3: Misc
Part three includes the signal for a jammer lap point as well as a couple of miscellaneous hand signals.
Officials: If you're interested in downloading a copy of the full set, please don't grab them one by one off my server. :) Instead, PM me and I can send you a zip file.
Last round of disclaimers: - These are meant as helpful visual aids, not the de facto absolute way you must do a hand signal. For specifics, you should always refer to the official WFTDA hand signals PDF. - Some of these gifs show penalties given with the right hand. Some show them with the left. Fun fact: There's no mention of "handedness" in the official PDF; signals can be done ambidextrously. - Roo and TJ put up with me filming them at 10:30PM last night to do these; as such, a few of them have a bit more pizazz than you might generally see on the track. :)
7.2.7 - Jammer Lap Point Other Hand Signals - Return to Your Bench: i.e. Too many skaters on the track. Other Hand Signals - Return to the Track: i.e. You left the track for a penalty you didn't actually get. Other Hand Signals - Skate Around: You missed the penalty box and must do another lap.
WFTDA Hand Signals in Gifs, Part 2: Penalties
So many penalties.
Your disclaimer section, same as the first: - These are meant as helpful visual aids, not the de facto absolute way you must do a hand signal. :)
5.1 - Blocking to the Back 5.2 - Blocking to the Head/High Block 5.3 - Low Block 5.4 - Elbows 5.5 - Forearms 5.6 - Blocking with the Head 5.7 - Multiplayer 5.8 - Out of Bounds Engagement: i.e. Hitting someone while out of bounds; continuing to make contact with a skater who's out of bounds 5.9 - Direction of Gameplay 5.10 - Out of Play 5.11 - Cutting the Track 5.12 - Skating Out of Bounds 5.13 - Illegal Procedure(s) 5.14 - Insubordination: i.e Mouthing off to an official 5.15 - Delay of Game 5.16 - Misconduct: i.e. Hitting a downed skater, hitting someone after the fourth whistle, etc 5.16 - Gross Misconduct: Doing something so egregiously as to warrant expulsion (i.e. slide tackle). 6.2 - Penalty: After any of the signals above, you'll see this, indicating that you're to report to the box. 6.4.1/6.4.2 - Foul Out/Expulsion: If you foul out or are expelled from a game, this is the hand signal for it. Other Hand Signals - Multiple Penalties: If you incur multiple penalties on your way to the box, this is what the official will flash to the Penalty Box. Other Hand Signals - No Pass/No Penalty: Good news! Even if you potentially did something illegal (cut in front of another skater, for example), that skater was out of play so you didn't technically pass them (say, the opposing skater was down).
WFTDA Hand Signals in Gifs, Part 1
Hey friends!
Thanks to the efforts of Roo Lyn Forcer and TestosteRon Jeremy of the Boston Derby Dames (and fact-checking prowess of the WFTDA Officials Committee), we've got lots and lots of hand signal gifs for you. One for every hand signal in the WFTDA PDF guide, in fact.
Some disclaimers before we begin: - These are meant as helpful visual aids, not the de facto absolute way you must do a hand signal.
