WGI 2014 & 2015
<
p>For the past two winter seasons in Dayton, I made it my goal to make people who look up to me or the SCVWG smile/feel really special. Both years, with the little time we had while using the restroom or being able to catch one or two shows before warm up, I’ve given a gift to a person who I really feel needs the gift. It’s usually the hyperventilating guard girl who hasn’t been to wgi and follows me on Instagram. This winter, I didn’t have anything well prepared but I did find a couple of bracelets that I had. I threw them at some of the guard girls in the audience during retreat. They went super crazy and were so happy they got a gift. After awards, one of the girls found me and congratulated me and said “I know this bracelet isn’t much but coming from you, one of the soloists of a world champion colorguard, means the world. I inspire to be like you. Now every time I feel like giving up because I think I suck, I’ll remember that bracelet you gave me. I hope to be in your place one day.“ It makes me so happy that I can inspire people. I sometimes feel like I should just stop doing the activity, but it’s things like this that keep me going.
