As the World Shelters in Place, Rare Beer Lovers Raid Their Collections

Beer lovers around the world are digging into their collections and drinking highly coveted bottles, complete with a trending hashtag: #drinkyourcellar.

I don’t collect beer or whiskey.  I do buy more than I can drink but that’s because they keep selling more beer and whiskey I want to drink...than I can drink.

During the epidemic, I’ve transferred significant amounts of beer from the basement to my beer fridge in the garage.  As @vinouomosette noticed, one was deemed better before July 2013; most was more recent.  There’s beer down there I’ll likely pour out.  

Having said that, I’ve enjoyed some really great beer over the last couple of months while I continue to buy more.  Just today I bought five different beers from two shops.  

The beer I’m drinking as I type this was so old in the shop, I got them to discount it to 1 cent over their price.  I walked up to three store employees standing together and suggested I buy their stock of a beer they’d had on shelf for a long time.  One of the men spoke up and said the prices were not negotiable but the woman said show me.  

She was the manager and she said she wasn’t allowed to sell beer below their cost but she said I was right, the beer wasn’t selling and she’d sell me all I wanted at one penny over cost.  

If women managed the world.
