The first scene of yours that comes to my mind is jack drawing davey in the theater in the genderbent au
oooh!!! I love that one!!
artist jack is so much fun to write and finding a way to shift that scene to suit my needs was a neat challenge.
Mike Wazowski falling down
The doctor apologises to Martha Jones
Every time she sees him feels like the last time she’ll see him again. Sometimes the trips are action-packed—he saves her life, she saves his, she waves to the bright young things he always keeps by his side and makes a point of giving them her number, just in case. Sometimes, though, it’s just this: an unfamiliar man folded up into her sofa, his eyes rimmed pink with whatever griefs or horrors he’s seen this week. “More wine?” she asks, and he nods vigorously, holding out the glass for her. “Wines,” he says, familiar even though the voice and the accent are strange again. “A wonderful thing, wines. Good for eating with pasta. Also a wonderful thing, pasta.” “Good for drowning sorrows, too,” she says, and puts the bottle back on the coffee table. She gives him a level look, and she sees it work on him even though it probably shouldn’t. “Do you want to talk about it?” He’s quiet for a long moment, then scrubs a hand over his face. She knows there are invisible weights on his shoulders, although she no longer knows their names. “Martha Jones,” he says. “I was careless with you.” “You were, a bit,” she agrees. It was a long time ago for her; she remembers the hurt, but it’s softened by time and people who’ve loved her better. He looks at her, fathomless and open. “I’m very sorry,” he says. “I didn’t want to hurt you, but I did.” Martha takes a long sip of her wine. “I appreciate the apology,” she says. “Thank you.” He looks away first, nodding at her wedding ring. “Who’s the lucky fella?” “Come to my wedding and find out,” she suggests. “Five years ago in the Botanic Gardens.” She remembers him there; beaming and happy for her, a stranger she’d know anywhere, an ice cream maker that also doubled as as an alien centrifuge wrapped up in a pink bow under his arm. She made mocha almond fudge with with last week. He smiles at her, big and surprising on his new face. “I’d be honored.” “Don’t make a speech,” she says, making a face so he’ll know she’s joking. “I promise, it goes badly.” He definitely gives a speech, because she can still remember it. He cried in the middle of it. Her husband’s family had been extremely baffled. “Note taken,” he says to her dubious expression. “I can take a note! I might learn slowly, Dr. Jones, but I do learn.” He’s wearing a wedding ring too, she notices, a plain silver band that suits him, somehow. “Glad to hear it, Doctor,” she says, and means it.
I don't know if this was the same everywhere but in the late 90s/early 2000s, in the UK, in order to get film times if you wanted to go to the cinema, you had to ring the cinema and you would go through to an automated message, that I assume was updated every week or so, that recited the different films that were on and the times/days they were showing. I think you pressed '2' if you wanted the automated message to recite the plot of said movie for you, too.
