     dread. it’s the first thing his waking brain can remember as he      shoots up in bed, sweat sticking to his bare body, clinging like      morning dew. he’s not out of breath but he’s rigid and his eyes      are eerily wide, dating around the dark room to try and      remember where he is. 

     posters on the walls. a shield hanging by the door. a familiar crest.      relief is there beside his heart when he glances down to find a      familiar, warm body beside him, still huddled in the sheets. blond      hair and ghostly yellow ears poke out from underneath blankets,      and sun visibly calms. 

     still, he doesn’t stop himself from reaching out to place his hand atop      jaune’s head, gently scratching his hair and breathing deep. his heart      still hammers in his chest.
