It takes many people and many resources in order for me to be in India serving. It takes more than money. It takes more than passion and talent. It takes SO many PEOPLE coming TOGETHER for the work we do here to serve people affected by HIV/AIDS. One of the ways I am supported is by my DEAR friend Marie Huss McKay back in the USA (Minneapolis, Minnesota) who makes sure that I have my life-saving HIV medications with me here in India. If it was not for her loyalty and commitment to this very important responsibility, thousands of other people here in India would not have assurance of their own life-saving medications. During Wheels of Hope, which is an HF resource program for anyone living with with HIV/AIDS in Nagpur, India, we had a married couple arrive. Soon we learned that all their "issues" had nothing to do with HIV or AIDS but rather the wife, who struggles with deep depression. We talked things out and tried to get to the "root" - to her feeling unworthy about everything. She didn't even want to come to our meeting but she did - that was progress. Regardless, we are making sure she receives daily help to free her from the current bondage's that make her so scared to go out of our her home, or work or even look herself in the mirror. Our work doesn't always solve people problems immediately but they always have people leaving feeling happy and full of hope to face the future in a way so they might be free and healthy in all ways. We are giving the best medicine of all as we meet with thousands of people in Nagpur, India who need the best medicine of all - HOPE!! We can't live only on Hope alone but we can't live without hope. You gotta give them hope! That's what we do! We have hundreds of families waiting on our waiting list to meet with us - it costs around $40 USD to help a family with anything (Medical, bills, food, etc). Visiting our special friends from HF Wheels of Hope who just had ear surgery to restore his hearing caused by constant infections from HIV. I couldn't help thinking about my own ear surgery in 2008 (everyone who knew me then remembers how anxious I was...but mine was caused from a Qtip) :) If I hadn't gone through my own ear surgery I wouldn't know how to comfort him or have the wisdom to know what to ask. Tonight our HF team was so fortunate to serve some our most lovable friends in our Wheels of Hope program. It started out with a father crying out in gratitude for giving his son the opportunity for an ear surgery, thanks to HF, to try and save his hearing as a result of AIDS. It was a night to take our friends out to a candle light service who might never have one or to have someone welcome them with a rose and all in an authentic spirit. Thank you AGAIN Anjali Bangadkar and Abhijeet Raut for sacrificially serving our work. You are family to us. Thanks to our team Samir Shinde, Sanjay Patil and Sumit Bhal who graciously commit so much to make our events successful - success to us means someone Is filled with hope. Finally, thank you to The Zuree for hosting the dinner and paying for the entire dinner! Rahul Kedare you are one compassionate leader and we appreciate you. After today's Wheels of Hope I was thinking about a song, that I love, called "Restoring the Years." This family lost their 10-year old daughter only 6 months ago to AIDS. None of the family knew they had HIV/AIDS until she passed away. The father was blaming himself. They are all getting treatment. Through our time together with our team, Sanjay, Samir and Sumit, I could see the "Restoring the years" coming through - healing in ways that medicine can't do.
