Been thinking of this for a while:
After a long time—I’m talking 75+ chapter slow burn fic that went on hiatus halfway through cuz the author got into a car accident or smth— Chains dies either an old man or is killed somehow, but only after years of dating Spiral. His memories and personality had been recorded by his cyborg parts and he’s could have easily used those parts to immortalize him. But they both refuse because Chainsaw deserved his rest and Spiral loved him too much to subject him to the torment of immortality.
Every year on any special occasion—birthdays(do either of them remember their own?) anniversaries, and of course, the day Chainsaw died—Spiral shows up to his grave at midnight, drinks half a bottle of gin and pours the rest in the ground.
Perhaps he had a conversation with himself, perhaps he drank in silence.
Perhaps he traced the letters engraved on the blackening stone—trying to commit the feeling of his old partner’s names to memory, perhaps he never touched it.
Perhaps, he doesn’t know how to act because it was the first time he’s ever stayed to mourn a lost companion.
Perhaps, it was the first time he was presented with the opportunity to hold on, and yet he decided to let go.
