When Forever Ends

I feel empty. Sick to my stomach, like mourning the death of a loved one. It makes sense because I am mourning the death of a loved one. My most loved one. My most beloved. My most prized person. The person I planned to spend the rest of my life with. My one true love, and he’s gone. But it doesn’t seem real. Most days I still look out the windows after 2:30pm to see him come home but he never does. I see him in my dreams though, so vividly. I can see him in all of his glory, smell him, the smell of dirt and sweet shampoo in his thick locks of hair, touch him and his rough calloused hands, taste him and the sweat on his brow. The dreams pass quickly and like a cruel joke they end and I spend the rest of my day replaying them in my mind like a broken record that I never get tired of.
