Maintenance of adult friendships is hard.
You take time out of your busy schedule every day to communicate with these people (with the chance of no response) in order to maintain the relationship, and if you don't, such friendship will cease to exist. In a platonic nature, what do you get out of all your time-consuming and mentally draining efforts? Not security or stability. The occasional coffee date, maybe? Invest your time in people who are more than willing to invest theirs into you. That is the only way you will ever secure a friendship worth having. Do things for each other. Little things. Appreciate these people and when there comes a time in your life when you lack the ability to make those efforts any further, do not be afraid to express this. It will make it a little easier on everyone.
