reading three of sarah sundin’s standalone wwii novels but each of them being somewhat connected through three harvard boys who became best friends and fell for extraordinary women, i don’t think anyone is doing it like her
every novel is a five star, chef’s kiss perfection of mystery, romance and action and i want to live in them forever
evelyn and paul were codependent without even realizing it and the fact that he threw away his career and left his dissertation work behind so that he could help her escape from German-held Munich (also the fake married situation was 🤌🏻)
lucie and peter were sweetness itself, the former ballerina helped her Jewish friends out by buying their bookstore so they could escape to America and helped a grieving widower learn how to understand his little girl despite the fact that she thought he was a Nazi collaborator (the fact that he was actually working for the resistance, and so was she was the icing on the cake)
and
else and hemming/henrik were the cause of my complete meltdown because what do you mean he portrayed himself as a poor, day laborer who couldn’t read and wasn’t very smart (so he could hide his work as a courier for the resistance) but somehow managed to make a incredibly brilliant physicist fall in love with him because of his kindness and decency 😭 the parts about the difference between courage and cowardice got me like 😭😭😭
