It's been two months and I still have only one question. Why the perpetual need to undermine the original skam ? I had the pleasure to listen to Rocco and Federico today, and one thing struck me, how much they look up to Skam, esp s3 the work Henrik and Tarjei did before. They were so lovely in their comments. Not one mean word. So I don't understand why their fandom wouldn't act the same. It doesn't validate the remake more, on the contrary.

I’m guessing this is about this post, right? listen, honestly I see nothing wrong in liking a remake more than the original, as long as you’re respectful you can like what you want and how you want to. apart from this particular post (that tbh I don’t even see as mean, it was said in the euphoria of the moment and maybe I could have put it better but the feeling remains and it wasn’t a drag to the og) I have never said something mean about the og and if you looked at my blog you’d know it. first of all because I’m aware that without it we wouldn’t even have a remake in the first place, right? second, because I truly love the og with my whole heart. Isak and Even were the ones that made me discover skam and I’ll forever be grateful to them because they gave me so much! at the same time though, this remake is giving me life in a completely different way. I was the first one to be skeptical about the whole concept of the remakes and especially the italian one, because it would have turned out to be either complete shit or a masterpiece. honestly? I’ve been positively surprised ever since s1 and I think they’re outdoing themselves in this second season. in addition, as Fede said yesterday at the convention, ITALY NEEDS SKAM RIGHT NOW. we are living a disastrous time in terms of politics and homophobia is still a huge problem here! just like Filippo said! I am even a bit sad that it is “just” a web series because I personally think it should be broadcasted on the national tv! people who watch it, as far as I’m concerned, are already a lot very informed about such topics like homophobia and mental illnesses (just to mention this season), and this is why it would be great to have it on tv, because people “need to wake up” and this season is a big fuck you and a slap in the face to a good portion of our population right now! it is literally making history in our country, having the first coming out by a teenager to his best friend and quite honestly being maybe the first italian series ever to have a gay character as the main protagonist. THIS is why, personally, I feel more attached to this remake in some extent. because I feel it much closer to my life. again, I loved and love the og with my whole heart but I never truly managed to put myself in the characters’ shoes. I loved them from afar, you know what I mean? skam italia gave me the possibility to feel everything on my own skin. I have goosebumps and butterflies in my stomach almost every time, really, and this is impossible for me to ignore. so, to wrap up this whole discourse, I am sorry if you see mean comments about the og because again, you’re free to like what you want just as long as you’re respectful. but at the same time I suggest you try to look more underneath such comments, especially if they’re not mean.

Amen to your last post! It's beyond me how skamit fandom is screaming for everyone to respect their show, because it is its own thing (when not really, but okay). And yet, they're the first one to disrespect the original story by comparing the two. Even worse, by highlighting that Isak/Even connection was not as good as the new one. When the italian ship only had like one scene together right ? So it makes me nicely laugh. Nothing will ever match Isak & Even. No matter the amount of copies.

It's like a competition they so need to win. In my mind, that's how it plays. I'm not watching skamit, but you should be able to appreciate this one and the original, while respecting both story. Remakes would not even exist if that wasn't for Isak, Even, Eva, Jonas, Noora, etc.

Hiii! :) <3 Exactly! And it’s like, people like different things and appreciate different things and characters/couples etc, and that’s okay. But the need to downplay isak and even’s connection and journey and to make it be less than any other version is just....do we really have to go there. If you have to downplay something it doesn’t make things better, it honestly means that people are trying too much to hype something that isn’t there.

It’s also so frustrating that people complain about not being ‘allowed’ to watch or the like the remakes, when they are the first ones to turn it all into a comparison competition.  Skam might not the most aesthetic pleasing or whatever, which i don’t agree with but it’s okay if people think so, but that was never what Skam was about. Skam was raw and real. It’s was relatable because just how real it was and how the characters weren’t perfect or dolled up. Also, Skam wasn’t perfect in anyways and hey, if people want me to list things that annoys me about it then hit me up.

And honestly right now it feels like the people who are making the comparisons haven’t really watched Skam or S3 of Skam, or maybe they don’t remember it because you have to take in the characters and their developments when making claims like that. Isak was a character full of joy in S1 and then it slowly faded in S2, and in S3 he was grumpy and annoyed af, but he was also anxious and closed off, and he was sleep deprived and so much in the closet. 

Also, saying that isak & Even’s connection wasn’t as real or as intense is just looking at the scenes without actually remembering how isak and Even’s story was. IMO, you can parallel the scenes because hey it’s the same storylines but comparing them means that you have to take note that Isak’s journey started in S3 and Martino’s in S2. And that means this:

When we got Isak’s POV we had this:

Isak already having living in a freaking basement

Isak running away from home.

Isak living in the kollektiv.

Isak getting religious texts from his mom

Isak being so deep in the closet (like there’s literally a plot about his freaking locker/skåp) and how he struggled with it.

Isak googling how to be into kissing girls, because he didn’t want to accept himself.

Isak’s internalized homophobia.

etc.

And this was all shown to us before he met Even, and when he saw Even for the first time it was almost like Even was something that he wouldn’t let himself have or look at. So yes during their first meeting, when this mysterious stranger just took all the paper towels and started thinking about dicks, Isak put up a guard a bit. But that didn’t change the fact that both Isak and Even were enamored/mesmerized and intrigued with each other during their first meeting.

So much that Isak wanted to go to another kosegruppa meeting to see Even again, and when he found out about his last name he googled him right away (so if people want to make comparisons, i can go all day), and then during the clip in Even’s apartment it was pretty much Isak and Even becoming friends and starting to get to know each other better, and possible there being something more. Like talking about school and music, and things they like and Isak noticing Even’s drawing and ‘e-box make a beat’ and kardemomme sandwiches, like that’s how you build a story. That’s connection, if you want it.

And by saying all of this, it won’t make Martino’s journey any less important or amazing. And i’m excited to see it because it’s going to be so different. Because Martino is in a total different stage of his life right now. He still got his crush on Gi...italian!Jonas and he’s still living at home, and he’s still carefree and open and so he dares to flirt with the boy that he likes. And that’s okay. Martino’s joruney is going to be different than Isak’s, and Martino and Nicco’s journey is going to have a different dynamic Isak & Even’s, but that’s the point of the remakes. Enjoy that because both journey’s and dynamics are important and amazing in their own ways. Stop downplaying Isak and Even’s.
