“i don’t know.” she said honestly, hoping the doctor wasn’t angry with her. but he was quiet, & she never knew what to think when he was quiet. “i wanted to get my head around it first, understand what was going on, what was going to happen to me & then i just… i forgot. i thought maybe if i didn’t think about it i wouldn’t have to deal with it.”
clara waited a moment. the nausea had died down & she took a sip from her bottle of water. she was used to this routine in the morning now & could at least be prepared.
“if you want some space to take it all in that’s fine, just know that you’ve got to tell me what you think sometime soon.”

This wasn’t supposed to happen.
Accidents like this didn’t happen to Theta.
Not because he didn’t have his frivolous mistakes, or spontaneous moments, but because theoretical science said it couldn’t happen.
Of course, he missed his long-gone family, and his granddaughter, but the idea of having another family (with a woman he did love) was a total and complete shock to his system.
So that’s why he was quiet.
And he was quiet some more when Clara finished in her explanation.
Thirty seconds passed, and in those seconds Theta leaned against the frame of her bathroom door, arms crossing to keep from any nervous fidgeting.
“...I think-“ he started, then scrapped that and began again after a deep breath, going slow to make sure he said the right thing, trying not to look upset - because he wasn’t.
Just caught off-guard.
“I think it’s your decision, and whatever you choose as a knowledgeable, capable, loving person, I will be with you.”
