@feminism-is-not-radical i read what you wrote about personal ventilators and hospital-issued ventilators and i agree that's eugenics. taking someone's personal medical device, "borrowed" or not, is murder. i was reacting to what was in the guidelines, but i would say they left a lot of gaps that give hospitals leeway when it comes to their own version of ethics. the disabled community deserves clarity on this, assurance that their personal devices won't be stolen from them in acute care.
i think we maybe still disagree on the trolley problem, but that's probably because i get too upset just thinking about it. i don't think there's a right answer, even though there "is." like, killing stick figures is one thing, but if i had to watch it play out i think i would just freeze. but the trolley problem is more about existing ventilator allocation, to me, while stealing someone's own ventilator is cut and dry. it's a different scenario, and it's wrong.
thank you for the extra information about home ventilators, i was confused because the source op gave didn't seem to mention personal ventilators at all. i have a better understanding now
