Tnippet Tuesday

I got tagged by @merilles to share a snippet of whatever I'm working on :3

I humbly offer you another snippet of After the Shadow's 2nd chapter! Maybe this will help motivate me to actually finish it lmao

This is a par of one of the little quests "you", aka the PC, would do with Tossdir, Meneldir, and a couple other Rangers in the Angle of Mitheithel.

“Thank you for the help, <name>! Although... I feel I must apologize for imposing my work on you like that. Please don’t tell Meneldir this, he has enough to worry about as it is, but the truth of the matter is... I wasn’t entirely sure I could do it without your help. The time I spent trapped in the Black Grave has still left its mark on me, and I oft find myself feeling far weaker than I expected. Just when I think I’m getting better my strength seems to slip away from me again! I offered to gather the cairn stones not realizing just how heavy they were going to be, but I was too ashamed to back out after I had insisted on doing it. Especially given how important it was... I felt like I owed them this much. Narndir and the others, I mean.” You try to tell Tossdir not to push himself so hard, and there are many willing to help him if he would just be honest about needing it. He just smiles waves a hand in the air dismissively. “You needn’t worry about that, my friend. You will not catch me volunteering to haul around more stones, that I can promise you! I think they will start assembling the cairns soon, we should stay and see them commemorated. You may not have known those they are memorializing, but I think you should be there anyway. Meneldir still feels Narndir’s loss keenly, and I know this is going to be hard for him. Having more friends at his side would do him some good I think. Would do us both some good.”

For literal years every time I looked at this dish at Midsummer I thought "Huh, a baked fish just absolutely smothered in honey. Man Radanir wasn't lying when he said the food here was covered in too much sauce! Gondorian cuisine sure is something."

Fish pie. That is supposed to be a fish pie. I literally just realized this.

Part 8: Another Hunt

Elanorien remembered nothing of her flight back to Gath Forthnír, with what felt like a thread pulling her back even as it felt like she would lose her way. She only had enough sense to not blindly run, moving stealthily when she is able, though she still found she was unbothered by many enemies in her path. Areneth, who stood guard at the entrance, was quick to offer the Elf some water, which she only sipped. "Thank you," she said softly, and ignored his questions as she stumbled into the cave to find Golodir and deliver the grim news. It could not wait for her heart to settle.

Though she was a warrior of old, had fought in many battles, had seen cities rise and fall, Amarthiel's return unsettled her deeply, but she had no time to ponder over how or why the Champion had returned to cause issue. That was for other minds to ponder and tell her what to do, as it was simply easier that way with her continuing lack of rest. The raspy voice lingered in her mind as she spoke to Golodir, who looked just as worried as she. After a few moments to think over the grim information she had delivered, Golodir finally spoke.

"We need to eliminate the threat of Mordirith's Men, these 'servants from the south'." He directed her to head south to seek out these Men, which gave her frazzled mind something new to focus on and resettle.

When she returned with news, Golodir this time told her to speak with Laerdan. "He knows much more about this woman than any other, it seems." He ignored her unsettled look and waved her along to hurry.

When Elanorien reached the Elf, he already seemed to know what she wanted to speak about. "I had believed her dead since the Battle of Fornost," he said, and she murmurs her agreement, having followed Círdan years before into that battle. "I believe she is heading to Evendim," he continued, "as the pedestal where once sat the palantír of Annúminas still stands. You should hurry to Evendim."

Though she knew this search was hers, Elanorien was still tired of all the back and forth, but she didn't voice this as she left.
