Sometimes you just start drawing only to realize after 15 minutes of struggle that you’ve apparently forgotten what stairs look like.

Yoko Taro definitely doesn't write about sibling relationships in the same way that Ikuhara and Mochizuki do but they're still very centrally important to his work overall and his only game which doesn't centrally feature a prominent sibling (or sibling like, in the case of 9S and 2B) relationship is Drakengard 3, his game which tries to trick you into thinking it's the MOST about siblings. In a way I almost want to postulate that don't think he would've written Furiae had he not had a sibling of some kind, because while his anger over the trope she represents is very obvious it was also very misguided in a way that makes me think it was at least a little personal. It almost conflicts with his other games though, in which the younger sibling is portrayed as someone more innocent and deserving of protection, while Furiae was made out to be a pretty horrible person.

#There's also just the whole matter of Replicant/Gestalt #Gestalt's writing sucked bc they didn't really get the time to actually WRITE it they just transferred Replicant #Over to a father/daughter relationship #Which Does Not Work #But also hr was clearly more inclined to write about a brother/sister relationship than a father/daughter one #And all the other prominent relationships in NieR are sibling ones #Ehhhhh #logxx

when people say they want to be friends with me I genuinely don't know what to say because

1. us being friends includes no communication for like 4 days

2. followed up by a 'hi'

3. which when you respond with 'how are you?' I will say 'I'm so fucjinf tired' send the worst possible picture of myself and then disappear for another 4 days

4. occasionally I send words of encouragement or bitch about someone to you

5. that's literally it. i wish i was kidding.

I’ve tried multiple times to get into The Dragon Prince and it never works, and obviously one of the deciding factors there is that I was 11 when Avatar came out, aka exactly in the target audience, and in my twenties when TDP came out, aka not at all in the target audience.

But I also think one of the reasons Avatar worked where TDP doesn’t is that Avatar’s setting was so original and novel (by Western standards in particular) that it didn’t really have any cliches or tired tropes to fall back on. Meanwhile TDP is in a pretty traditional medieval fantasy world with elves, magic, and of course, dragons, and consequently it’s tied down to all the genre conventions that go with it. Elves are wise and spiritual, dragons are violent tyrants, dark magic is evil (hence the use of the word “dark”), but like…. All of the original worldbuilding they put into it kind of flies in the face of that? I’ve gone on before about how ridiculous it is for a fantasy society where meat-eating is common and acceptable to draw the line at [checks notes] killing a deer to cast a spell that saves your brother’s life, but also, like. Elves. They’re introduced to us as a genocidal, warmongering, racist culture that spearheaded the fantasy world’s equivalent of the Trail of Tears, and then the rest of the show is spent justifying to us how all that classic fantasy stuff about elves being higher beings in-tune with the inner workings of the universe still applies.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Fire Nation, but the gradual reveal that the actual citizenry of the Fire Nation are mostly just innocent people felt like it had so much more subtlety and nuance to it than “this is the leader of the elves. He is currently trying to murder a child. An episode has passed now, so now forget about that and start admiring him for, uh, adopting an orphan and raising her to have zero self-worth”

Word of warning: don't live on an AIMCO property. The only way I can pay without excess fines is through their fucked up website, which fucking lied to me and stated AFTER I paid the normal amount I owe (the amount in my contract) that I now owe for Feb and March. Fuck them. I am so fucking pissed.
