sometimes I think about all of Taylor’s throwaway lines about Calvin and get so sad

#‘i wanted to leave him. i need a reason’ makes my stomach drop out #‘i got a boyfriend he’s older than us / he’s in the club doing i don’t know what’#makes me want to die and not in a good way #WHAT WERE YOU DOING CALVIN WE WERE ROOTING FOR YOU #no but for real sometimes i think about them and i hope (and think) that dancing with our hands tied is about them #and sometimes i think the only song about calvin is better man #which is ALSO DEVASTATING #like i’m not saying i wish it was different #bc it clearly got so bitter and ugly towards the end #but i am STILL SADDENED BY IT #!!!!!! like. that was a YEAR. he clearly MEANT something to her. until he didn’t #and it makes me want to cry #(also i know she wrote better man before calvin. most likely about jake.)#(but i absolutely believe it was released bc it was about calvin)#(it was actually such a brilliant way for taylor to achieve the catharsis she needed without making it a huge deal)#(bc it’s out there now! shared! and heard! in a way that taylor always needs for healing)#(but not under her name) (with the scrutiny attached)#it’s one of her saddest and most eviscerating songs #and i think if we’re going to look at how she feels about calvin #that is the closest we’re going to #get #to an answer #anyway i am just rambling #but the point is: he planted her an olive tree okay #i was always going to need time to process #and everything happenend so fast in 2016 #so sometimes the feelings come out 4 years later #maria cleans out her drafts
