Computer illiterate old people are interesting.

I work customer service, and I had a patron come ask me if I could help her move photos from her phone to her flash drive.

Sure, easy enough

Until it wasn't.

She had a file of photos (~4000, no joke) that she wanted moved to a different file first. So I show her how to move the photos and then click confirm. It takes 2 hours to load those photos. Then it's time to move to the next stage, the photos in her phone.

Her photo app is Google Photos, so it should be simple, but her phone won't talk to our computers. And telling her that we needed to log into her account on the computer to access them became a whole thing, including her not knowing her password.

Finally got in. Next problem, I'm not familiarity Google Photos and I'm expiramenting (narrating and getting permission at every step). So, probably doing it the hard way, since what I thought was the easy way didn't work, it took about 30 minutes to select every one of her 13872 photos. Only to discover that you cannot export more than 500 at a time.

We are an hour to closing time,and there is no way we will finish this before then. It took 10 minutes to download 500 photos, and about 2 to select those.

I try to explain again what I'm doing so she can do it herself, and I can go do my very neglected tasks, but she just won't do it.

She also starts telling me that she doesn't trust Google with her pictures for reasons and she's so glad she stopped using Google to store them. And I have to break it to her she is still actively using Google on her phone for her pictures. I eventually give up when she doesn't get it and doesn't believe me

So. I finally tel her at 10 to that I have to go, but next time she's in someone can help her.

So of course, she says that she will come everyday next week and find me (specifically me, she doesn't want anyone else to help, and she did say that) so I can do her pictures.

So. Next week I will be spending all of my time downloading her photos for her. Because she doesn't want to go through and delete any of them until they are all downloaded on the flash drive. Inckuding all 50 pictures of a jar of Kroger peanut butter. (From different dates, but there were so many pictures of pb and I don't understand)

This kind if interaction happens regularly with older patrons. I'm not going to get anything done next week
