“WHITE BIRD”

WHIMM have unleashed a second single, the drowsy “WHITE BIRD” from their latest EP titled ‘Not My Kind.’ The Toronto based trio of singer/guitarist Mounir Chami, bassist Andrew Matthews, & drummer Jonathan Pappo continue to explore the desolate the back roads on their latest offering. This new found territory suits Whimm well, as they expand on their minimalistic tendencies to great affect while keeping you wholly engaged. “White Bird” is a rangy beast, one built around Chami’s jangly guitar and laconic drawl, embracing bits of gothic Americana into their dusty post-punk. Pappo holds down a sparse beat that maximizes the track’s fluidity by keeping the train rolling with a subtle touch as the haunting refrain of “White bird, White bird, Dead on the highway, Dead on the highway” haunts the proceedings.

WHIMM have returned with a new single, the austere “NOT MY KIND” which also serves as the title-track to their forthcoming EP.

The Toronto based trio of singer/guitarist Mounir Chami, bassist Andrew Matthews, & drummer Jonathan Pappo have steered their minimalist template in a darker direction. Whimm are now traversing the same country Goth roads as Ritual Howls while still maintaining some of that Fugazi-like post-hardcore tension that makes the trio who they are.

“Not My Kind” rides a damn near surf lick as six-string twang couples with a light base of percussion, allowing Chami’s downtrodden vocal to take center stage. Whimm have a knack for negative space, allowing their respective instruments the proper room to breathe which is a trait deployed to maximum affect across the 4 minutes of their latest offering...
