The Captain’s quarter in the Santa Maria, used by Christopher Columbus in his first voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492

The Santa Maria was the largest of the three ships and was a carrack. Here you can see well that under the cabin is the whipstaff, the forerunner of the ship's wheel. In front of it the compass and the hourglass.
