The others quickly arranged themselves in a train formation, with Ace at the very back to act as counter weight. The recruits grasped onto the shoulder platings of the bot in front of them securely, awaiting Fuse's next instructions with a tense determination.
“On the count of three!” he yelled. The recruits minus Slide counted in unison.
“One!”
“Two!”
“Thr-”
Before they could finish the countdown, something else caught everyone’s attention.
Or, the original rescue bot recruits have grown to become legendary rescue bots in the future and have creations of their own following in their pedesteps.

Chapter 1 Sneak Peek!!! 🤭
The rescue bots academy was unsurprisingly silent, like every other day. Hallways shining with the sheen of fresh polish, personal belongings responsibly kept in their allocated spaces, and not a single recruit missing from each class. Discipline, peace, and order were after all the main principles of a Rescue Bot.
However, that would only apply to the common rooms. Classrooms on the other hand, were something else entirely.
Each year was immersed in their individual lessons. One occupied Hero Hall, and judging by the constant shrieks of “LAVA!!!” emanating from the room, the Year 3 recruits were most likely taking a test based in a volcanic setting. Another was perhaps out on a field rescue, given the ghostly quiet of the Year 2 recruits’, whose booming voices would normally echo throughout half the academy at their normal volume.
All years were kept busy, except one.
The Year 1 recruits, to be exact.
Double doors that separated the hallway from the lounge room swished open in welcome to the Year 1 recruits, who trudged into the room at paces of elderly snails in different directions, wandering all over the place to search for available seats of any kind. Normally, recruits with sparking circuits and creaking platings would be immediately sent to their stasis pods or Medix's lab. But on top of their deteriorating physical conditions, each recruits’ processors were also alarmingly one exercise drill away from a full shut down.
Firmly planting themselves on whatever closest seat their optics landed on - and ignoring how unconventional some may be - they shattered the stilled air with their groans, noisily plopping down onto the first flat surface they had seen regardless of the dirt on their frames soiling the area.

Ohmygoodness I've actually written it!!! Just kidding I'm already mid-way through chapter 6, but i've recently been dragged into The Little Vampire (2017) fandom, so I'm working on a fic for that instead of RBA lol.
It'll be a long while before I post anything on ao3, since I havent even beta-read most of the chapters yet, but take these little crumbs for now till i find the time to continue writing and return to the RBA fandom.
Also try to see if you can guess which kid I've described in the summary belongs to which bot ;)
If I posted a fic set in a timeline where the recruits have grown up, graduated the academy, became fully-fledged rescue bots and have kids of their own that attend the academy as Year 1s but are more chaotic versions of them, would anyone be interested?
The story begins with Fuse (Whirl and Hoist's creation) building a time bridge purely as a side project, but when found by the other kids looking for him to play cube, said cube decides to be a little shit and destroy the time bridge so that it malfunctions and brings the kids back to the timeline where the canon RBA show approximately ended.
The whole fic is just basically a continuation from where the show left off but with added tension of hidden identities, witnessing awkward creators pining over each other, telepathic arguments conversations between the kids, and maybe a smidge of angst.
Oh and Medix is a single guardian who adopted a daughter off the streets of cybertron while visiting Ratchet.
Do you know if Whirst canon? It’s my second favorite ship. My number one is Whirlshot and I ship those two.
Whirst hasn't been officially confirmed but there are plenty of hints throughout the series that show it as a possibility. I've talked to one of the animators and they said that they ship them!
