Out of all the places, he didn’t think she’d have the nerve to do something like this at a party at his own house. TJ’s a little more than drunk, and when he sees her go upstairs with some random dude? It lights a fire within him. TJ downs the rest of his drink and sets off after the pair. When he reaches the top of the stairs, he calls out for their attention. When the guy turns around, he wastes no time punching him dead center in the nose, the other male stumbling towards the ground while the blonde watches in horror. “Stay the fuck away from my girl.” He hisses the words through his teeth, and it’s only then that he finally turns his attention towards her.

      Chase needed to clear his head, take a step away from the fame and the cameras and the fully-stocked mini bars that seemed to just be in every hotel room he stayed in. At least, that was what his manager had told him when he had set Chase on a plane back home to the little town he had grown up in.

      Of course, it wasn’t proving to be as head-clearingly relaxing as his manager must have been lead to believe. Chase’s mother and older of his two brothers still had no interest in speaking to him, and his youngest brother next really had interest in speaking much at all. He’d been dropped off in front of their old family ranch, but lacked the courage to knock on their door and beg -- not for forgiveness, but for a place to stay. Instead, he checked into the only other place he could in that small town. Their single, shithole of a motel. It was far from the grand return he would sometimes play out in his head when he got homesick. Not that he got homesick. Not for this little shithole, with people who probably didn’t even miss him, never even tuned in to his songs when they played on the radio.

      A headache raged behind his skull from his bender the night before (and maybe continued a little on the flight in), and he had headed to the local coffee shop for a mug of black coffee to help with it. He sipped at the caffeine, kept his head down so that no one would recognize him. Not in the “oh my god, Chase Tanner” way he’d become accustomed to in the past few years -- but rather in the “what brings you back to town? it’s been years!” kind of way.
