I suppose so! This is my first read by her, so I have nothing to compare to. Which is seriously a disappointment--it makes me wonder what could have possibly been so great about them.
That could very well be it! Maybe authors fall into that trap--I'm afraid it happened with Cassandra Clare's books. The last ones just weren't nearly as good as the first ones. It happens way too often. :/ Maybe I should try another one of her books to see if this is a weird case, but honestly, the writing was just bad. It wasn't just the plot--the writing itself was terrible to read. I wonder if her other books survived based on good story alone?
