Hi! I hope this isn't a bother, but I was curious to what size you make your gifs when resizing them to be smaller? I'm learning myself but it's been a little hard to get my gifs to have nice quality so your advice would be much appreciated. Thank you so much for your time for reading my message :) <3
are you kidding? I am so excited to get an ask about gifs..hee hee! I am just learning myself ,so it will be gif making for dummies because that’s what i am \o/
I hope this is what you are after? If not message me again, and if i don’t know the answer i will try and find it for you. I am fussy about quality too!
For starters i find that if you don’t crop the gif just resize to the pixel size you want (eg 540px). If you have to then maybe make two smaller gifs instead of one bigger one. (268px) then you can use way more frames.
Also some PSDs can really bump it up, so if your gif is quite long try just adjusting with curves (these don’t affect the gif size) or try a few different psds to find one that has just a few simple layers.
Go B&W!
If it is a longer scene that you want then try removing the first and last frame, and every 5th one to take the size down.
After i have done all that then when i go save and it is still too large i bring the number of colours down
see how there is 256 colours up on the top right? If your gif is HQ enough then reducing a bit won’t affect your quality. Just go up and down until your gif is just under 3mbs. (you can always bring the lossy up slightly too - just play around a bit) I pretty much try and save at 2.98 mbs :D
In regards to looking sharp, i use a sharpening action, but that only looks okay if the clip you are staring with is HQ. (let me know if there is anything else i can help you with,or explain better)

demondetoxmanual said: Instead of Selective & Diffusion go with Selective & Pattern. That can save you around 200-800kB.Take out just a tiny bit of vibrancy and you’ll save yourself some size, too.Another tip: B&W gifs usually don’t need more than 30-32 colors. Actual color gifs will, if you’re using decent colorings, still be good at 120-128 colors. 👍🏻
Hi! I was wondering what image size you use for gifs? You produce amazing quality and I just can't seem to make my own content good quality and it drives me nuts haha. Thanks so much for your time and I hope this isn't a bother!
hello!
the widths i use are 540px for one gif or 268px for two side by side.
if you’re using the correct dimensions and you’re still having quality issues then i suspect that the problem is probably that the video source is not HQ enough. i prefer 1080p resolution whenever possible but it can be hard to find, unfortunately.
