White Backlash has always been a part of this country, and it’s back far worse than it’s has been before.
Always remember, cruelty has always been and will always be the point.
Nina Simone released this song in 1967 on her album 'Nina Simone Sings the Blues'. This was one of Simone's "civil rights songs" and it was written by Langston Hughes. Simone and Hughes' angry lament was aimed at the white racist reaction to the US civil rights movement and the damning thing about this song is that it could have been written yesterday about the current white racist reaction to the Black Live Matter movement and the push to defund the police. It's a song that's been with me for years and has been on my mind of late. “Mr. Backlash, Mr. Backlash Just who do think I am You raise my taxes, freeze my wages And send my son to vietnam You give me second class houses And second class schools Do you think that all the colored folks Are just second class fools Mr. Backlash, I'm gonna leave you With the backlash blues When I try to find a job To earn a little cash All you got to offer Is your mean old white backlash But the world is big Big and bright and round And it's full of folks like me Who are black, yellow, beige and brown Mr. Backlash, I'm gonna leave you With the backlash blues Mr. Backlash, Mr. Backlash Just what do you think I got to lose I'm gonna leave you With the backlash blues You're the one will have the blues Not me, just wait and see

Ground fighting remained relatively light in Vietnam yesterday but American pilots flew more missions against North Vietnamese targets than ever before in the war. A military spokesman in Saigon said that 197 missions had been flown against targets from Hanoi and Haiphong down to the demilitarized zone.
In Moscow, Western diplomats noted a definite chill in relations between the United States and the Soviet Union. One diplomat described the current diplomatic climate as “almost as bad as the worst days of the cold war."
A meeting of foreign ministers of Arab nations in Khartoum has apparently led to a climate of sufficient agreement to warrant a summit meeting of Arab leaders. Premier Mahgoub of the Sudan, host of the talks, said a decision had been reached to recommend the convening of Arab chiefs of state.
The Administration's antipoverty program came under continued fire in hearings on racial rioting held by the Senate Judiciary, Committee. The Office of Economic Opportunity Introduced a witness before the committee to deny charges by a Nashville police chief that a "liberation school” there was teaching "hatred” of whites while being sponsored by Federal funds, However, the witness, under intense questioning, said
the O.E.O. had made no payments to the "liberation school.”
As the hearings continued, it appeared that some liberals who have long been identified with the civil rights cause share the opinion that the recent widespread Negro riots may drive white Americans into making a choice between massive repression of Negroes or the mobilization of national resources to bring them into the mainstream of American life.
Unsettled Territory is a journey through culture, law, history, literature, and politics. Making time for digression, diversion, subversion,
"The claims to equality and full civic and social participation for all people have been perverted and colonized by powerful forces in order to maintain the status quo and all its hierarchies. In addition to our various forms of protest and dissent, we who believe in freedom must reclaim ownership of the words of struggle. We cannot accept their distortion, and history teaches us why. As the mother of two opinionated and politically impassioned Black youth, I know that their First Amendment rights matter a great deal. They speak the language of freedom."
Whenever the pendulum swings toward Black equality and full citizenship, white supremacy mounts a counteroffensive.
America on Fire
Several years ago, in Columbus, Ohio, the Columbus Division of Fire responded to a structure on fire. This structure was a residence. Upon arrival, firefighters could see that it was fully involved with flames. As they began to advance the hose lines to the burning structure, they noticed a body lying on the residences’ walkway. Upon closer observation, the body was determined to be fatally shot…
