Anyone who thinks white people don't have culture can go and

get themselves a plane ticket to somewhere in Europe. Any country would do. I want them to experience eating tapas at 11 pm in Granada, watch an orchestra expertly play Mozart in Vienna, taste wine in Bordeaux, go for a hike in the Alps, explore Diocletian’s Palace in Split, anything that would get them out of the little box they live in and experience another place and another people.

As an Asian who’s lived in and travelled quite a bit around Europe, I am continually amazed by what I see. And when I see tumblr posts claiming that a piece of toast or something is “white culture”, I get a little mad. Maybe more than I should be. The utter ignorance of it astounds me. It’s like they never considered that the “white culture” in America is not entirely representative of “white culture” around the world.

Even if you’re not one of those people, you should probably do the above anyway. Europe is a pretty sweet place.

New Welcome to Night Vale episode and already a character that has a canonly poc name (Michelle Nguyen) is being cosplayed by white people. WTF!? Look at your selves, Night Vale fandom.

Upset by all the white Cecil's again.

So I did another little test. I googled 'Cecil Night Vale', went to images and did a count on the first 110 pieces of fan art to show up (which I guess are the most popular images according to Google) and the result was:

White Cecil: 100

POC Cecil: 4

Ambiguous: 4

Blue: 1

Dog: 1

Why do people in a fandom like this take a character who has no description in any part of canon and all go "this is a white dude".

And don't give me any of that 'it's a personal choice' shit. When this many people see white as a default for a character with no physical description there is more than personal choice going on. There is a systematic tendency to see whiteness as the norm.

who the fuck looks at a character named Carlos, a man with "dark delicate skin" and thick black if greying hair, a man played by a person of colour, and thinks "ah yes this is a cis white dude"

Responses on a post with fanart of POCecil from the most recent episode of Welcome to Night Vale. Cecil, not Carlos, and it should have been pretty damn obvious, anyway, but Cecil can't be anything but paper white, right? So any character of color in fanart must be Carlos because we can't possibly have more than one poc in this show, right?

Sorry, but the fans didn't "all" decide on the popular headcanon depictions of the main characters. That fanon is the majority (kind of unfortunately, in Cecil's case), but not everyone caters to it. And maybe they shouldn't automatically cater to it. Stop erasing those of us who don't think that Cecil should be super-pale white, tall, and skinny (the latter two things being characteristics he doesn't even have canonically).
